I've just build a two-brick forge last night and HT a junk O-1 blade I screwed some time ago. Al these junk blades come handy now :)
Looks like It works. I can get blade uniformly orange pretty easily and then quench it in preheated oil.
As someone mentioned that professional HT service will do much better HT than you can do at home.
I understand that O-1 is very forgiving but after working so hard to make blades I am finally satisfied with I don't want to screw them.

What do you think guys? Professional service or two-brick forge?

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

Nothing ventured nothing gained! That's how you learn. The first few blades you H.T. yourself, will definetly get your blood pressure up. You will get such a great feeling of satifaction when you , pull it off, that, never again, will you think about sending your blades out for H.T. Remember with the O-1 that it is a full hardening steel and it likes to be put in the, temper heat, right after the quench. Don't wait around. Best of luck, Fred

Just a thought on your comment about getting the blade uniformily orange. That may be to hot. Getting to non-magnetic on the up swing for me is a dull red color. I do all of mine in a one brick set up so it does work well, but you may want to research getting overly hot before the quench. I sure agree with getting 01 to the temper asap.
