Can anyone here relieve my curiosity? How does a 5 or 10 dollar (or more) tool or other item end up on the rack of the dollar store? Is there any probability of it being "counterfit"? Anyone else seeing these? And how many should I buy?

I am used to seeing cheap junk, not name brand gadgets.

Latshaw PocketwrenchII in the blister pack for a buck. Shocked I say!

Edited to add: There are half a dozen or more on the rack.

Buy it, its not like you're using a credit card, you're paying cash. Could be counterfeit, but its only a dollar. Maybe its factory defects or overstock from a bankruptcy sale that the store bought at auction.

Good find! I can't really answer, except that they will buy liquidation lots and maybe it was in there, or maybe it just slipped in when they were sorting the junk and the quality stuff.

Good deal for you, either way.

Yeah, buy it. I've seen several name-brand items at dollar stores. I'm not sure if they acquired the products through insurance organizations (i.e. delivery truck turned over) and then sell them but they are a good deal nonetheless.

When you find what looks like a brand name at a Dollar Store, just make sure its' the real thing and not just a very good imitation. I bought some felt tip markers last month that looked just like the brand-name - but when I tried them, about 50% were already dried out after I opened the blister pack! (I thought it was quite funny actually - 'cause usually ya get what 'ya pay for.)

Which dollar store chain is it? There are a lot of them these days. If it's just a local store they probably buy small surplus lots the big chains wouldn't handle.

This thing seems to be the real deal. Already came in handy a couple of times!

ummm, wrong forum and all, anyone want one for the buck and shipping? Not sure what a padded envelope and shipping would cost off the top of my head.

I'll chime in to this old thread:

Virtually any popular name-brand product has been counterfeited. Anything from designer clothes and accessories to pharmaceutical drugs to CDs and DVDs to automotive accessories to cigarettes to car parts to children's toys. These things show up in small businesses and large businesses alike.

So yes, it's possible.
