I've been looking at Shapton waterstones offered on Ebay that are originally intended for the domestic Japanese market. They are signifcally cheaper than the export versions retailed in the US and Europe. Looked like a good deal, but then I came across a note on a woodcraft web shop saying that the domestic Shaptons easily develop cracks if used outside Japan, supposedly because their composition is intended for the very humid Japanese climate.
Any truth to this? Anyone have experience using the domestic versions of the Shaptons?
