Last Saturday my son and I got to meet Darrel Ralph, handle some of his outstanding customs, and enter a raffle at Rivers Edge in Columbus, Ohio.

My son won the grand prize -- a new Dominator.

It came with bronze washers. Is Camillus shipping Dominators with bronze washers now? The other possibility is that Darrel Ralph did an upgrade before it was donated for the raffle.

Yes, my son was blown away by winning the knife.

I believe Darrel upgraded that knife. He had said something about wanting to start doing that with the Dominators.

Thanks Dirk. I would add that the opening is slick and there's no play whatsoever in any direction.

In looking at the knife again I noticed that the clip is not stock -- it's a deep pocket clip. I'll assume Darrel Ralph added that too. It's pretty nice that this is not only a Dominator, which is fantastic to begin with, but it's one that DR has gone over and improved.

My son has insisted on trading the knife to me in return for me buying him a Heat and giving him a Spyerco Endura. He's fully aware that this trade favors me. He says I deserve it for putting up with him, and because I made it possible for him to win. I've got a good kid. :)

P.S. this post is by Keith Mayton accidently signed in under my son's name. Oops

Heeeeyyyyy! I just realized what was going on here! If your going to be a dork, you might as well be the biggest one you can be! :D

Sorry Dirk. My only defense is that the O and I are next to each other. :o :footinmou .

Back to the Dominator -- another thing I wonder is whether DR reprofiled the blade. The grind is perfect, and is noticeably higher than that on my Cuda Maxx.

Nope. He didn't touch the blade. That is the way it be. He did washers and maybe tuned the spring. I am not aware of him doing any other work on them.

Camillus is making the Dominator very nice now days!
The blade grind and blade centering is a good example.

My son Ryan checks every one that we sell.
I am a dealer for the Camillus products that I design.

We change the washers to bronze and add a fold over clip to the Dominator.
We do not profile blade etc.

Darrel -- thanks a million for providing the knife along with Rivers Edge. He got his Heat from Rivers Edge and it's also a great piece of work. The manual conversion feature is a stroke of genius.

As you indicate the blade on the Dominator, in addition to not having any play, is dead center.

We also plan to get one of your folder kits as a father-son project.

I bought one a few months back that had the old washers. I talked to customer service and asked if they were changing them out. They said they were putting the bronze on ones that were sent back with problems. As far as changing them out during manufacture, the impression I got was that they were not.

I have to say though, Ive used this knife almost every day for the last 3+ months without any problems from the washers.

Just for some clarification, we are changing out bad or damaged washers with the same type washers. I think at one time we had a handful of brass or bronze washers and used them but went back to the teflon washers afterwards.

Any reason why that is?

I was under the impression that bronze washers are better.
