What do you think? I'm interested in your thoughts.
I find it plenty strong and love the design but would nevertheless have liked a bit more metal around the pivot.

If you follow the link you will get to some pics of a disassembled dominator HERE

Yep, from the pics, looks like we ALL would like and have expected to
see MORE metal in the pivot area!?!
mm

Any screw assembled knife will break at the screw threads way before that HARDENED S-30V pivot assembly gives way.

Think about it!

I say we should at least give the knife a few months to prove what it can and can't do through wear and tear of every day use. I'm sure that it'll end up just fine.

Just out of curiosity . . . is the blade the same on the manual only A.G. Russell edition or does it maintain a normal pivot arrangement??

I'm very curious about that also, as I haven't bought a Dominator yet, but was planning on it.

The pivot area is not very reassuring. You know what they say, perception is reality.

Guy,
Don't let looks fool you, Lombardo is right, the knife is PLENTY strong in the pivot area of the blade. That is .125" HEAT TREATED S30V....way stronger than the screws holding that knife, or any of its competitors, together. Testing shows that when ENOUGH pressure is exerted to induce structural failure, the screws and spacers holding the knife together separate WAY before the blade fails.

Jason, yup, the manual version from AG has the same cut-out area in the tang. That is not for the ROBO feature, but for the 3rd frame spacer that was added to the design, near the front of the knife. You know, the 3rd spacer we added for additional STRENGHT.;)

Hi Folks,
The pivot area of the blade was tested. The pivot pin will break before the blade even thinks about breaking. The relieved area is for the blade stop closed position and to assure of the frame accuracy from front to rear.
Not to worry... Remember the delay in shipping? Here is why we were late. Rather than put the knife out fast thinking it was good enough, Camillus engineers and myself tested the blade, handles, wear parts and spring using hellish testing to make sure the whole knife performed under extreme circumstances just in case we had a person who got into a situation where the knife had to be used for purposes other than a knife. We go to extremes in testing rather than just making sure the knife works as a knife. Camillus will not put a knife out with any doubts about performance to the highest standards PLUS. The Dominator is built to last a life time! I even ran over one with an F150 truck for the hell of it. It worked fine with this type of abuse.

After reading Darrell & Will's responses I'm
certain now that not only does my A.G. Russell
Dominator ( Oh Yes, one sweet knife it is:D )
"feel" like a folding fixed blade it will also
perform like a fixed blade!:D :D

I have just got to chime in here. I have used mine every damn day for a month or more and really put it through some serious work. It's just as good as it was when it was new. I have 0 problems with mine. I would also like to add that it was quite sharp when new and holds an edge very well. To top that off, it's really very easy to sharpen as well. If anyone has had one that failed I would like to see pics of it and know what they were doing when it did fail.

Regards,

Tom Carey

Cool Will! I was just curious if different blades were ground. Great Knife!

I havent been able to stop carrying my dominator since i got it about 6 weeks ago. that small pivot area means nothing to me,for everyday or even hard use, nothing is going to happen to the knife............
