Dominator Spring Removal

I just bought a dominator and the knive looks and feels great. Some threads indicate the knife can be made manual by removing the spring. If this is true has anyone done this. I have the MAX 5.5 and like the kicker just wanted to see if the dominator without the spring would respond like the MAXX.

Although I respect the stance and opinions of Camillus, it's possible to hedge around that comment a little. The long and short of it: the spring can be removed, but then then knife can't be reassembled properly. ;)

Of course the spring can be removed; All it takes is a large chisel and a large hammer.:D.

The back end of the spring fits in a recess in the handle. One of the back spacer posts presses on the side of the spring when the knife is assembled. Without the spring the spacer post won't fit. Buy a new spring from Camillus. Cut the spring off so all you have left it the part that fits in the recess in the handle. Take apart your knife. Remove the Robo spring and save it. Put in the piece of the cut off spring that fits in the handle recess. Reassemble your knife. You may have problems now. The frame lock detent on the Dominator I’ve seen is made so there is play when the blade is closed. The detent doesn’t hold the blade all the way shut. The Robo mechanism does that. The blade may open 1/8 of an inch if held shut by the detent alone. The tip would be exposed. Check your detent before going through the trouble of ordering a new spring and cutting it off. You could try shaping and drilling a piece of metal to fit instead of buying a new spring. I like the knife the way it is.

Folks,
Again, we don't recommend removing the spring from the regular DOMINATORS. There are several things involved...mainly that were the spring anchors to the frame, it acts as a spacer, and by removing, the knife won't fit back together correctly. But.......

We have made an exclusive for AG RUSSELL KNIVES, a run of MANUAL ACTION DOMINATORS. They will feature the thumb groove recess for opening the knife using the thumbstuds or of course with the flipper. They will also feature BLUE ANODIZED frames, another exclusive feature for AG RUSSELL! They have been shipped their first knives, and they will be in their next catalog. Selling price will be $159.95.

If you want a manual action DOMINATOR, this is the best way to get it!

Thanks again for your continued interest!
