How does the Dominator's lockup compare to a lock-back or Axis lock for strength?

Thanks,
Mike

It is a well executed frame lock of the same design used in Darrel's Madd Maxx. The Madd Maxx is considered one of the strongest folders going. While I have not heard of a Dominator being tested to failure yet, I am sure it will be done soon. I know Anthony Lombardo likes to abuse Darrel's designs. Maybe he has already done this.

As to how it compares to an Axis lock? My opinion from my observations of the Axis locks I have had and of the Dominators I currently own, The Dominator will hang with the Axis lock, at least.

What do you say Anthony?

I am guessing that the Dominator will actually be stronger than a Madd Maxx. The smaller frame is stiffer due to the extra stand-off screw near the pivot, and has some slightly different lock geometry.
However, repeated opening and closing of an assisted opening knife like the Dominator will certainly accelerate wear on the stop pins and locking bar.

One thing about Darrel is that he is always refining his designs, especially in regard to edge geometry and lock performance.
I am currently abusing a Dominator, I will report back.

I really look foward to reading the results of your test. Have you had any experience with the Strider Ar, SnG, or Sebenza? Would you mind commenting on the cutting/slicing ability of the Dominator?
The Madd Max seems like a big ^#^@!#*^&#. Does it really have a utility purpose, or is it meant to entertain us knife folks?:)
Thanks
Luke

Thank all of you for all your input, as always it's very insightful. There are a few knives on my "short" list and the Dominator is one of them. I do understand that the Dominator is a frame lock and designed by a very well regarded knife maker and Camillus have implemented it nicely. Will be nice to see Anthony's results and thoughts on it after he has had it for awhile.

Also, I have never owned a knife with assisted opening. What concerns me is an un-intentional opening.....either while removing it from my pocket or while simply in my pocket. It appears that this knife was designed with a stiff release to help prevent that. Any thoughts about that would appreciated as well.

Sincerely,
Mike

The Dominator design resists unintentional opening very well.
The edge geometry is a flat grind with a medium grit belt edge finish that is a very aggressive cutter. The Sebenza is hollow ground with a polished bevel that is a very sharp but not as aggressive on tough materials. The edge of the Dominator is about the same thickness as the one on a Sebenza.

The MaddMaxx is a great utility knife, I carry a Maxx or an Aftermath quite often. The Dominator is quickly becoming my favorite EDC however, it has so many really good qualities.

Hey Lukers, I just got the manual action limited Dominator from AG Russell. This has to be the sharpest knife I've ever had. It must be the S30V steel. It's really got a "bite" much the same way that VG10 does. I can't wait to get some more blades with S30V steel.

I checked the Ag Russell site and I didn't see the manual Dominator. Can anybody point me in the right direction?
