Hi everyone!

I'm getting married this August in the DR and was wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge about the knife laws down there? Blade length, concealment issues, prohibited weapon definitions? As well, any information about the general attitude towards knives being carried would be appreciated.

Hello Burt. When last I landed in Puerta Plata, all of our carry ons were to be lined up on their long inspection tables with bags unzipped. A female official(?) checked into my bag and discovered a Leatherman tool and a Spyderco Delica plain edge. She took a quick look at it and dumped it back in the bag. And proceeded to wave me and my friends onward. We were there for their countys 7 day National Invitational Tour bicycle stage race. Perhaps she had made an exception due to our US national team wearing their governments official credentials. I can' t be sure about their formal customs policies nor what is allowed or not in their streets. But I have openly worn my Delica clipped in my front pocket and LM tool on leather belt pouch during the week long stay. Many of the locals actually expressed great interest in my LM tool. I gave it to our designated team driver to express thanks for his week long chauffering. Keep in mind though when in doubt call ahead of time if possible. If still unsure, then best to bring an "expendable" piece JIC. Much like the Delica I toted along. Puerta Plata and San Pedro Beach is quite beautiful! Good luck.

Nakano,

Thanks for the reply....although I am quite confused as to how I managed to post this thread in the Strider forum. Heh!

I'm planning on giving the local consulate a call or email to confirm their knife laws. Just wanna make sure...don't want trouble during my wedding week!
