First off, I know, apple to oranges comparison.

I can get either one BNIB for $145 shipped. What would you prefer and why for EDC? I have never fondled a Domino and my only concern is that it appears to be wide, thus taking up pocket space.

Thanks

My vote would definitely be for the 940, which has taken on almost iconic status. Its a great EDC knife, and Benchmade will send you a free deep carry clip if you ask. You make a good point about pocket space, and the 940 certainly excels in that department too. This is subjective, but I just don't dig the looks of the Domino too. So yeah - 940.

I carry my Domino in a back pocket but that's always my preference for any modern knife. A slipjoint goes in the front pocket. Anyway I don't find it wide or heavy. It's a really nice knife, the steel is good, it has a lot of cool features like the bearing pivot, titanium, steel insert, and the flipper can be used or the Spyderhole. Overall I'm very pleased with mine but that's a personal choice. Not everyone wants the same thing. I've never been interested in Benchmade designs, so I don't have an opinion about that knife.

I haven't held a Domino, but I love my 940 and have no reservations on recommending it. Like powernoodle said, I asked Benchmade for a deep carry clip and they sent one to me free, no questions asked. It is a great EDC; thin, strong, and most importantly the blade shape is very useful.

If the size in pocket is a concern, the 940 is definitely easier to carry.
Can't go wrong with either!

940 excels in pocket-space department, with its lean frame, while Domino takes the crown in overall F&F (yes, its incredible). Also note 940 does not have a flipper, while Domino does. With 940 you also get a longer cutting edge, if that matters, and the reverse tanto tip makes it slightly stronger in the "pry" department. I'm in a minority here, but I prefer the Domino for its F&F, superb flipping action, and overall a neat package. Of course, both knives cut equally well.

The Domino is a flipping machine! My only complaint is for me I wish the lock bar had a little more to grab on to and on mine the steel inscert sticks a little.

I would go with the 940. I have never handled one but i owned a domino and got rid of it the next day. Too bulky for me and didnt like the carbon fiber.

I love my Domino, it's one of my favorite knives! Having said that I don't really care for any Benchmades.

Have them both, love them both, the 940 carries so easy and is super thin, the domino has the regular 940 beat on looks and blade steel though.

As much as I love both and it's a close call I would pick the domino over the 940, and I love my 940 however , materials alone the domino IMO wins hands down, ergos again domino wins hands down. I also prefer a choil, don't get me wrong again I love the 940, but all things considered and prices the same I would go domino all day long, now 940-1 vs the domino might be different...I say for that price if you can get them both, try both and sell the one you don't like as much you can get your money back for one of them, but my guess is you would end up keeping them both, as they both are that good.

Funny... Based on the replies, I would have thought you would have went for the 940 ;) I love my 940 and I don't have a domino, however one of my biggest gripes with spydercos is that they take up too much space in my pocket. I do have a native and a manix and they get lose pocket time because of the size. I think all of spydercos leaf shape blades suffer because of this

Never used a Domino, but used a 940 for about a year. It is an amazing EDC. Thin, light, carries well, but very strong, and that blade is so good at so many normal EDC type tasks. It's a really, really good knife.

I know, haha. The sale on the Domino ended last night, while the 940 I can get for a decent price at anytime. I figured I can return the Domino if I don't like it and get the 940, but I guess I didn't want to miss out on the sale.

I've never handled a Domino, but the 940 makes a great EDC knife. Slim profile, and good utility blade shape.

Does everyone who finds it big in the pocket carry in front pockets? I put keys & the cell phone in my front pockets, so there's no room for anything bigger than a small slipjoint. For back pocket carry I find that all knives that aren't super heavy don't seem very different.

^^^I like back pocket carry from time to time. Especially when I have a lot of stuff in my other pockets.

Id go with the 940
