I got my NIB Spyderco Domino a few days ago and really like it. It would suit me as a great edc blade and for me it brings to mind my Manix 2 yet with flipper action. This knife has style, excellent fit & finish, a razor-sharp edge and ... well, my problem is with the flipper action.

I really like flippers but, with this knife, I'm experiencing a metal-on-metal sound when I flip my Domino open and there seems to be some friction that keeps the blade from opening "like butter on glass."
I don't want to adjust the pivot screw because it's perfectly centered. Don't get me wrong -- it does flip open if I apply some "oomph" with my index finger.

So, do I need to apply some lube? Do I just keep on flippin' until it breaks in? Do I send it in for a factory adjustment?

Thank you in advance,

Joe

Mine has gotten a lot better over time, but it never had a metal to metal sound. You get that with washers sometimes, but the Domino shouldn't be doing it. Sorry I can't help. About all I can suggest is shooting some lube in the pivot area and then give it a little break in action. Good luck.

It sounds like it might be the detent ball. You can put a little lube on it and then basically wait 1000 flips for it to break in a bit. I've had mine for a while and it still sounds a little "robotic", but it's still really smooth. The whole blade is basically riding on metal bearings so to me, it sounds different than most of my knives.

I don't understand the "metal on metal" problem. The flipper took a while for me to break in and some forefinger breaking in as well. Now the Domino is at the top of my list for smoothness of operation and to be honest, I very rarely use the flipper anymore due to the effortless swivel around the pivot and the satisfaction of feel of a well built knife.

I would guess the detent ball as well. Put a drop of lube directly on it and see if that helps.

Thank you all for the input! When I look at the knife sideways with a bright light behind it, I also believe the issue may be the detent ball.

I put a couple drops of blue lube in there and it helped just a little. I'm going to continue to flip it like crazy and occasionally add more lube. I'm sure it will sweeten up with some time & use.

Thanks again, everyone!
