I mentioned I picked up a couple of knives as well as some darn good education at the Fall ABS hammer-in. Here's a couple of them.
Don Fogg is a Master among Masters in that group, and it was a pleasure meeting him. There is no one who doesn't respect what he has done in regards to the ABS knife community and knives in general. It was also a rare opportunity to not only handle his knives, but to purchase one.
This was a simple forged utility with his cord-wrapping and his 'flower' mark embedded in the cord and on the sheath. The unmistakable temper line is very apparent. Note the distal taper and the tapered tang forging.
Not too many Fogg knives to look at these days. Too bad...
I also picked up one of Robbin Hudson's now-famous Dragon's-head letter opener/knives (I don't think he heat treats this, and it doesn't have his MS stamp on it). He did a short one-hour display seminar on forging and one of these was what he completed (before finishing the grinds and clean-up). It is made up entirely of one piece of metal that he cuts and shapes and forges. Clearly a top-level blacksmith as well as an artist. Did I mention he was a Mastersmith, too??
Both were great men to learn from.
