Just thought I would post this picture so that everyone can look at what I consider to be one of the greatest Bowies ever built. There is just something about this knife that makes me sad that Don is no longer taking orders. I would be willing to get another job to pay for one like this if he would just accept my order.

This knife has appeared in these forums before, but I figured it was nice enough to show again. What a talent this maker has.

that is a great knife by a first rate maker

credit must also be given to the deer that "contributed" that wonderful antler!!!

Keith - that particular knife is one of the finest bowies I have ever seen. Everything about it is spot on. I recall a previous post where someone voted that handle as the finest piece of stag ever to grace a knife. I'm not going to argue. Don is an extremely talented maker and an extremely thoughtful one. His web site is chock full of interesting articles that fall under a broad category that I would describe as "philosophy of the forge". I've really enjoyed reading them.

Okay back to the knife - here's another view that really showcases the fabulous hamon (and the most excellent sheath):

Great picture of a great looking bowie and tip and throat style sheath. Don is one of the greatest.
I just found an old dark amber stag carver that looks identical to that stag on Don's handle. I kinda hate to use it because I know it'll be a long time before I ever find another stag carver of this quality. There's just nothing like a premium piece of stag!

Ron, you did have to tell me that you had a piece of stag that nice, didn't you.

Here is another knife of Don's. This picture is, like the one above, taken from his web site. They just don't come any nicer.

Don's one of my idols...

Like has been said many times, Don has a way to articulate simple elegance that's flat-out stunning.

Of course a really simple elegant knife is usually far from simple.

Maybe "hero" would be a better word :)

Those are stunning knives. Keith, thanks for posting it again. Don Fogg is also one of the nicest guys to speak with and a great maker.

Ron, we need to talk.;)

Keith,
Yeah,I just had to rub it in. I apologize if I got your saliva glands working in overtime on the stag carver.

The coffin handle Fogg bowie is great. Nice lines as usual.

Two more knives I had the opportunity to handle. Both courtesy of www.TheCustomKnife.com . Not sure if they are still available, but might be. Ask.

Unmistakable style and hard-edged grace.

I think that this stag bowie is my all time fav' knife. The celtic blade is also a fav of mines. However, close seconds would be...

So, like, drool is a bad thing for a keyboard right? What a great display of gorgeous knives and swords. Coop, those photos are awesome as usual.

Here's my textured spear point bowie to add to the group:

Yes, a great bowie! What always brings me back to that knife is its perfect minimalism. No ferrule, no file work, the thinnest whisp of a buttcap, but perfect execution. On some knives, decoration is simply distraction. When the execution is near perfect, it is nice to leave "the knife" itself unadorned and foregrounded. Then, as Ron Newton astutely pointed out, to fancy it up just enough with a perfect stag handle and less than plain sheath. Great taste and great execution combined!

Don is one of the best and a perfect gentleman on the phone, have yet to have the pleasure to meet him in person.

I have three of his knives, a bamboo dagger, a mac nut handled shiv and one of his cord wrapped utility knives. All are beautiful and if I can find the pictures when I get home I will post them. You guys may hate me for this but I have used the hell out of the cord wrapped utility that I got from Don. Takes a licking and wants more!

I have always said, when I lay all of my blades out (and its a few;) ) that the ONE knife I would want to have, if the chips came down, was the bamboo handled dagger. My friend always picks a nice bowie by Vince Evans, GenO Denning, Charles Ochs, (and I am NOT knocking any of those makers, they are all excellent as well) but for me..........its that bamboo dagger. Pics tonight!
