Don made this very compelling chopper and as soon as I photographed it, he sent the picture out and some lucky dude pounced on it.
Definitely worthy, IMHO. Firstly, it's big. Blade is 11 3/4 in. OAL is 17 1/4 in. But it doesn't feel sluggish. The weight is forward, as it should be, and the sweet spot is at the blade's point of greatest mass, 2/3 of the blade length from the guard. I could scare the heck out of my neighbors with this thing, for sure.
And secondly, the handle material (heavily mineralized mammoth ivory?) is endlessly entertaining with a great many colors mixed into the intricate annular patterns. The scales are to a great extent matched, as the left inset shows. They have real visual depth, as if one can see down into... nowuddamean? ;)

Kyle 'son of Don' Hanson made this sweet hunter/utility belt knife.
Blade is 4 3/4 in. OAL is 9 1/4 in. The handle is nicely rounded for enhanced control. The dropped clip-point blade has a tapered tang and balance is spot on.
I think we should call Kyle 'Donson' - Donson K. Hanson. That would be a cool name.
The beauteous belt hanger is by Mr. Paul Long - very nice.

For me, the big one oozes fantasy--like a Norse god's battle blade, forged in the molten fires of middle earth and quenched in the icy waters of the North Sea; the ivory obviously fossilized with cracked glacial ice permanently in suspension.

Love the little EDC blade as well.

Beautiful images, Buddy--thank you.

Buddy, thank you for the great photos!

The handle scales on the big one are Mammoth and unlike any I've ever seen. It is cross cut and stabilized. Very unique!

The wood on Kyle's knife is stabilized curly Koa. One of my favorite. This is Kyle's design with very little input from me. Great hamon also. I'm very proud of him!

Don,

That is a heck of a piece of ivory. I've never seen its likeness.

I'd love to put it to use. You have my address :)

Kyle's work is fantastic. When's he gonna start posting these himself?;)

I could not of said it better :)

I really like the small one and of course the sheath and photo are wonderful

Thanks guys!

Seth, one day man. It'll happen. Kyle doesn't get in any hurry.
He needs to build a web site and sign up here.

Very nice work. Charles Turnage has been selling that "cross cut" mammoth for a little while.

Wow! That is some chopper! Unique ivory adds a lot to this. Really a unique piece with its own charm.

Great images, Buddy.

Yep, got this from Charles. Not seen much with this color though...

Joe, I was hoping for you to see this one in person, but it got out of here too quick.

Side note; Kyle's hunter has a W2 blade at 62 Rc.

I've been using a few W2 blades at this hardness and it is crazy good stuff!!!:)

Don knows how to make a big blade wicked fast. That handle is insane. In a good way. Very nice work by Kyle here as well.

The big chopper is an acquired taste for me. Still, having handled hundreds of Don's knives, I KNOW how this would impress in the hand.

That little utility is a show stopper, though. So clear, I want to reach in there and grab it. :D

Great job, ALL of you!

Coop

Coop I know what ya mean about the big chopper. It is different! ;)

Ditto on Kyle's, it just flat out works for me!

Roger, it is lighter that it looks...

Thanks again folks!

I wouldn't mind taking that chopper out for a spin! Well, maybe not THAT one, but mono steel and a handle made from something a little less valuable would BEG me to build some trail with it :)

Don, that Chopper is a monster and I never seen such unique ivory.

You guys are making some of the cleanest hunters around.
I think I saw a similar Stag handled one some where.

That mammoth ivory looks like the inside of a geode, Don - very unique!!! As is your chopper....

Love that utility blade also- very clean. And what's not to like about the Koa?:p

Beautiful Pieces Congratulations!

I hope nobody actually CHOPS with that! ;)

Both are gorgeous knives!

The first thing that came to mind when seeing the photo was how I would love to chop up heck with that thing, then I thought what a shame it would be to scar up that beautiful work of art.

Great knives, great sheath and great pictures
Congrats to Don, Kyle, Paul, Buddy and the custodian/s of those beauty :)
