The 1086M blade in the first image has had my name on it for some time. Don called after the Blade Show and said my name was up to finish this. Don was kind enough to take a few pictures through the construction. We have discussed using stag from the start on this 9-inch steel and the first piece I picked (pictured) was too large for the blade.

Don suggested curving the clip somewhat and I agreed. Knowing the tip would drop during heat treatment, he hammered the tip up some after grinding in the clip and it dropped into place during the one and only heat treatment. Good shot, Don!

Guard and ferrule damascus pieces fit to place before final shaping. Still looking at stag.

The damascus guard and ferrule to shape, rounded well to accommodate the stag that was decided on.

Some finished shots, next...and the sheath.

it's good to see the tang finished so nicely. Easy to cut corners and time leaving it rough and nasty.
She's a beautiful knife with a very pleasingly shaped blade. Can't deny the inherent value of good stag either.
I'm :D with envy.

I really like the way Don finished off this blade.

I will call this one the Steam Mill Hollow fighter since the forged blade spent so much time in Don's shop before completion. There had to have been some good hand-to-hand battles with knives in that hilly part of the Ozarks at some time in our Missouri history. :D

And finally, some pictures from Paul. Hope to have this package professionally photographed this summer.

Paul said the minute he came across the dark brown 'gator, he knew it was made for this package.

Protected in the sheath. Thanks Don and Paul!

Joe, thats just beautiful, as you might expect from Don and Paul. That slender tip fits Don's delicate hamon so well. How's he do that..

You lucky dog.

As expected, you've got another winner on your hands. The gorgeous stag makes a nice channge of pace from all the gorgeous ivory. :)

Awesome Knife Don
Killer Sheath Paul
Congrats Joe on the knife and the marriage of your Daughter!

Thats a Beauty Joe, Sheath and Knife compliment each other perfectly ;) . I was wondering if Don got kidnapped in Atlanta or went on vacation chasing those blue gills, haven't seen him on here much.

Excellent knife/sheath combination. :thumbup::thumbup:
Every component contributes to the overall.

It left here yesterday, so it should be in Houston by Friday at the latest. I enjoyed working on this one too. It was "my kind of knife", but then almost anything Don builds is my kind of knife. The brown Alligator does match up nicely with the stag. I appreciate the kinds words concerning my part of this project.

Paul

I don't know if they can come any nicer than that knife by Don and sheath by Paul. Thanks for all of the pictures and congrats on both.

Timeless, classy classics--blade, handle, and leather. But who would expect otherwise with these two artisans.

Nothing nicer that great stag. Make mine richly dark--amber or chocolate--with full texturing on both sides like this one. Don't care for bent carvers, the attractive ones slope mildly front to back as this one does. What's remarkable here is the perfect mating of stag and ferrule requiring little or no grinding. I gag every time I see excessively large stag severely ground down to fit. The fit always looks like the glass slipper on Cinderella's sister's amazon foot. Then, there's the jarring leap from beautifully colored, textured bark too smooth, dull white bone with about as much charm as pvc pipe.

..and on your daughter's wedding.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Don and Paul are great to work with. We'll see if Don remembers where he keeps his box of stag, now that the dust is off of it. ;)
