Each year Roger P gets a "Best Bowie of the year" thread rolling.

Usually what happens is that a few of Don's spectacular knives end up splitting the vote and it is essentially impossible for one of his to make the final cut.

Any interest in doing a Don's Best Bowie of the year vote, so we have a unified choice for the end of the year Bowie thread?

Yes. And who wouldn't enjoy a picture show of Dons knives? I haven't seen Don on here in a week or more.. Hope nothing happend.

Aha - strategic voting!

Though you are correct that Don's numerous nominations tend to split the vote among many worthy knives, it does not, in fact, result in his exclusion from the finals. A DH III bowie or fighter has made the final 5 in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Indeed, Don and Russ Andrews are the only two makers to have had a knife in the finals each of those three years.

Don should be back on the forum and in the shop tomorrow. He has just been out of town a few days.

I think it all washes out in the end, the favorite bowies rise to the top each year after the vote. But, I can see where two or three special bowies in the same year from makers like Don and Russ can split up their chances. It just hasn't happened, yet.

I believe a maker having multiple bowes in the final 5 could hurt his chances for "winning" as votes from his fans could be split. However that's only happened one time, which was last year when we had 2 Larry Fuegen bowies in the final 5. But even if the votes for both were combined a Fuegen bowie still wouldn't have had the votes to have won.

So all considered, we probably have a pretty good and fair process.

Hi Jon, I am still alive, lol. Like Joe said, just been out of town. Actually, I just got home, was forging damascus and playing with power hammers at the Little Giant factory :D

As to the 'Best Bowie', I'm just glad to get a few nominations each year.

Peter, thanks for thinking of me. :)

Don has a subtle and fulfilling approach to his marketing. It's as pressing as a glacier. ;)

I just got my DH3 2011 calendar (Ltd. edition of 25). I am certain the talented Tina Hanson worked this over, and it is as fine a calendar in visuals and construction as I've ever acquired.

It's page-after-page, chock-a-block filled with hamons, ivories, and goblins. All on a pointy object. Great quality of photos from a variety of sources, including his own.

Way to GO Don!

When it comes to Roger's annual thread, Don is a victim of his own success!!! :D

Beautiful pieces for sure!!! :)

You may have gotten Don in trouble now as I'm sure with a limited quantity of 25 many of his good customers didn't receive one. ;) :)

Now that Coop has spilled the beans...

Hey Don,

Thanks for that great calendar!

Are you sure you're ok, Don? Your knives are looking a little green around the guard.
:)

Don,

You've obviously got a huge base of admirers and justifiably so. Glad to see you get the recognition!

I think we should just start a good ole don hanson bowie picture thread. Or maybe Don should get a sticky to post his new ones as they come... :) :)
