Here's one I had on order with Don. Came in recently. A beautiful knife!

5inch forged W2 blade, bronze ferrule and pin, Walnut handle. OAL 10inchs.

I ask Don for a utility blade, something I could carry at the cottage for all sorts of light duty tasks. This came out perfect IMHO and is exactly what I was looking for. Light and super sharp. Love the hamon!!!

Thanks Don!

Yep, an excellent piece that you can carry with pride in a more formal setting and still use for chores without feeling you are defacing fine art.
The best of both worlds.

Thanks for the comments. Don's great to deal with as many of you know. I wasn't sure how he'd take my request to make a more "basic" knife but he was all for it. I could have done his own damascus on the ferrule or a guard but I did want to keep it a strict user and ensure I wouldn't hesitate to do so.

I've spoken with Don a few times before this and he is first class all the way.

Thanks again Don!!!

Just an excellent piece - your order was indeed filled "perfectly". :) Congrats and thanks for sharing the pics.

Man,do I like that!!
Nice flow and that W2 sure does make for a fine lookin' hamon.
Thanks for giving us a peek.

That one has 'use me' written all over it. Great design for a light user. I got to inspect this before it left Don's shop, and I understand why you are so pleased. Nice when it comes together so well between customer and maker. Congratulations, Matt.

Must be great being able to handle/inspect every knife Don makes. ;) :)

What a neighbor.

Kevin, it is nice being close to Don's shop. I get to see several in progress and some final results. It sure helps the learning curve for me. The hardest thing about visiting Don is pushing all the ivory out of the way to get in the door! :D

I have seen his shop photos from his website and no ivory in sight.
I think he keeps it buried in the yard, that's also his secret for it not cracking. ;):D

Joe likes ivory as much as I do, so I have
to drag it all out when he stops in for a visit :D

I'm pretty sure he hasn't seen it all though ;)

I do enjoy our visits, Joe's one of the good guys

Matt.....you have been significantly upgrading the "user" side of you collection lately, haven't you?:D Nice score!!!

That is one incredible knife. It has smooth lines. It looks like a fantastic knife!!
