Hey, I met your nephew last weekend

Turns out I had him swinging a hammer when I was at a demo 3 or 4 years ago. I remember at the time that he kept going on about how his uncle made knives, and that he was going to go visit over the summer.

I thought he looked farmilliar :)

He's got a real tallent for making mosaics.

Hi Tony, I forget to look at this forum, sorry I didn't see this sooner.

Yea Philip is doing good for a kid, now if he can just stay focused he will be a great knife maker or metalsmith:) He's been up to my shop a couple times now. I'm originally from Tallahassee, how long you been there? I did a mosaic demo at the 03 FABA conference in Blounstown, had a good time even though it was raining. Philip learned most of his knife making from Ray Roberts and John Butler, couple of good guys from your neck of the woods. Well, I'll probably run into you sometime, I get down to Tallahasee a couple times a year. These forums seem to make this a small world don't they? :)

Take care, Don Hanson lll sunfishforge.com

I've been around here since '92 and swinging a hammer the same year.

I know John, and have been down to Ray's shop a few times, I've allways really been more of a blacksmith than a knifemaker, and went for several years without making anything like a knife, so was out of touch for a while. I've been making more and more knives here lately though.

Philip does have tallent, but I know what you mean about focus... He told me that he'd done about everything he wanted to with knife-making, and seemed a lot more interesting in making bicycles  I'll bet he comes back to it though.

Give me a call next time you're in town, and I'll buy you lunch :)

Tony
