A while back I ordered a knife for my birthday. I asked Don Morrow for a 4" single blade trapper without filework. It arrived yesterday.

This beauty is what I got.

CPM154 blade with amber stag bone scales. Dovetailed bolsters. The acorn shield was engraved by Don's lovely wife.

It's a big knife at 4 3/4" closed. The blade by itself is already 4". Here's a tip, when commissioning a custom slip joint make sure that everything is clear and understood. I asked for a 4" knife, thinking that I would get something in a nice, pocketable package. I always assumed that when a knife is described as being 4" long, that meant 4" closed. You know what they say about assumptions right? It seems that there is another way to understand a request for a 4" knife, and that is you want a knife with a 4" blade. Doh!

Fortunately it all worked out. While the size of this trapper precludes it from becoming an every day carry, I'm still keeping it. I have enough knives that are 3.5-4" in size, this one'll introduce a little variety into my lineup. And it should make a nice picnic or fruit knife, replacing the Laguiole that my wife claimed as her own a while back.

Don's work is excellent in every way and I'm sure you'll be very happy with your new trapper. Congrats!

I've got a few knives made by Don. He sure makes a nice slip joint. That's a real beauty you have there.

Great looking knife and that acorn tops it off.

Gorgeous. I know that I am in the minority, but I really prefer knives without all the filework.

It seems the acorn shield is a hit. That's my favorite feature of the knife too.

I really like the shield and the amber stag. But I'm with you - to me, a 4 inch knife is one that measures 4 inches closed. But, I always confirm closed length and blade length when I order.

To echo everyone else, WOW! That acorn shield is sweet. I got a kick out of the realism of it and chuckled a bit.

I like that "elongated" trapper look, and that blade can be very useful! A beautifully executed "one of a kind"!!

I have 6 of Don's knives including his first sow belly that he made. He makes a beautiful knife and is a real gentleman to work with. Good luck and enjoy!
