I’m 100% behind the movement, but the “all knives matter” theme is problematic to me.

Aside from being a somewhat dated reference at this point, it is a pun derived from the “all lives matter” response that attempts to disregard the “black lives matter” movement.

I’m just saying this might not be the banner under which to march. It’s distateful and reflects poorly on the whole movement. No matter how you modify it, it still comes across as a regressive dig against social progression.

I think the message is great as do the multitude of donating sponsors, vendors and craftsmen also. What an impressive turnout of support to get that message out there. Thanks for all you do Doug.

I greatly appreciate the work and notable success that Doug has had - including in my state, which now allows me to carry a Combat Troodon - but there is already enough questionable imagery in the knife world that can have unsavory implications (crusader themes, iron crosses, "infidel", etc) that the knife world would likely benefit from quietly dropping and pretending never happened.

Making the motto of a political endeavor something reminiscent of a retort to a racial equality movement is really just a bad move overall. It might play well with a certain audience, but the "all lives matter" phrase has taken a sharp turn for the worse in public perception once it became more widely understood that "black lives matter" is not implying a higher priority, but rather arguing for equal priority - making "all lives matter" a redundant statement at best, and an antagonistically dismissive statement at worst.

This movement might honestly make faster progress and have more broad acceptance and support from political figures if the motto was changed.

I was merely expressing my gratitude and support. It’s clear where the slogan stemmed from but it’s also apparent Doug has garnered impressive support for his agenda and message. Any influence on proposed legislature changes by the organization has been well accepted by representatives in all levels of government resulting in many successes and few defeats. The professionalism and conduct of the organization speaks for itself.

I approve, you disapprove. No sweat. While I do agree a more original slogan would have been not so “tongue-in-cheek” I think we can leave out the perceived connotations lest we distract from the greater good of this post and message.

Well said.

Tongue in cheek implies to me it should be somewhat humours, which it is not. Let’s not put our head in the sand as it’s obvious why someone would choose this slogan. To mock and undermine.

As comeuppance suggested it serves no beneficial purpose to the long term goal, and if anything acts as a negative in an otherwise “successful” campaign. I just don’t see the point other than a cute attempt at amusing a minority of people on the wrong side of history.

You said you don't want to distract from the overall message of the post and theme and I agree, which is exactly why it is ironic as that’s exactly what the slogan does. You act as if the perceived interpretation is subjective which implies either an obvious and unlikely coincidence or severe ignorance on the part of its creator. I’m not quite sure what there is to agree or disagree towards, it is what it is and I believe Comeuppance Comeuppance was just pointing that out. If it detracts from anything it only does so because that is what it was designed to do.

I disagree. That’s how this works though, you get your say and I get mine. That’s fine.

Doug had approval to post this in general discussion by the owner of this site. It’s merely an announcement. Maybe taking up your concerns personally with Doug, would have been more appropriate?

Again Doug nice job! You are pointed in the right direction. Thanks for your efforts.
