donated multi tools stolen by bureacrats

i certainly hope this is not another viscious urban legend. but ive gotten a few emails concerning the donated multitools and how they are not being distrubted to the workers at ground zero but instead are snatched up by high level bureacrats.


the tools donated by leatherman co and gerber are being pocketed before they reach the firemen and policemen.

that is simply disgusting and perhaps new york is returning back to its old grafty ways.

Smells like troll ... if it comes by e-mail with no evidence, no reference, no reason to believe it except it fits the "conspiracy theory" mindset. I wouldn't touch it.

What do you know about New York's "old grafty ways"? Is that different than anyone else's "old grafty ways"?

It is quite likely that some bureaucrats have grabed a multi-tool, but there would have to be an awful lot of them doing this to keep the workers from getting them. Leatherman and Gerber donated a ton of multi-tools and I am sure that most of them are getting to where they are supposed to end up.

I may be able to find out if this is infact happening. But I would guess that if it is, it's on a very small scale. Our Firefighters Association sent 200 calling cards from a company here localy that donated them to the rescuers. We didn't hear of any problems with them getting the cards.
I'll see if I can find out from one of their Union guys.

I spoke with my friend, Dan Scofield, a NYC firefighter working at Ground Zero since day 1. He has told me that the multi-tools in question have been recieved by the intended parties. If any tools were grabbed up by the big-wigs he is sure it was very few. But for the most part they have reached the workers at GZ.
