Hello Everyone,
I finally finished the goose quill dao. It was a lot of fun to make, and I am absolutely going to keep exploring this fairly wide-open class of swords. There are so many variations that all fall into "dao" since it just means something like big knife or saber.
Material: Spalted Walnut, wrought iron bolster and pommel plate, copper spacer, mild steel guard (i gotta switch to wrought or high carbon here in the future so i can etch and darken better), 1075 and 15n20 blade (400 layers, straight laminate in random pattern).
22.5" oal
17" working length of blade from guard to tip.
Comments are welcomed. Thanks for looking.
Kevin
