Here are some photos from a weekend camping trip in Donegal, Republic of Ireland. Been here for about a half a year for work and been breaking up the time with getting outdoors.

Hiked about 32 kilometers over two days. Doesn’t sound like much but the elevation changes are pretty rough. Never needed a trekking pole more in my life or actually felt the need to have one for each hand. Maximum elevation reached was about 500 meters and probably did 1500 meters worth of up and down.

We took two cars, parked one car at the end point and then took another to our starting point.

Here is the starting point. The thing about the hills here is that you think you’re just a bit from the top, but it just keeps going and going.

This watch tower was at the top of the first hill, made for a scenic water break.

Here you can barely make out the watch tower in the photo, it’s probably 4-5km away at this point.

I swear none of this was photoshopped. Have not seen a better weekend in the six months I’ve been in Ireland as far as sunshine goes.

Cooking up a little dinner, hamburger meat with pasta and red sauce. Not a snow balls chance in hell of lighting a fire out here; if you had not noticed there is not a single tree in any of the photos of this post so not a lick of firewood to be found. We planned on this though with a small burner.

Here’s us going to the coast for some shots of the sunset.

Nice beach somewhat near our camp site. We are about 100 meters above it though and did not make it down there.

Our humble camp site. Ruins of a old cottage are here. Makes sense since there is a small brook that runs from a reservoir a couple of kilometers into the hills. Also snapped a pic of that on the hike out.

I camped under a tarp set up on a old stone wall. Got down to -1C at night and had just enough sleeping gear to get me through. Worst part of the night was the sheep, who knew they stayed up all night baying.

Crazy terrain say what? A couple times the lead guy would have his boot go ankle deep in the muck in these sections.

This is pretty near the end of the journey. You can't tell from the photo but walk 20ft and you have a 450 meter sheer fall. Walked about a half a kilometer along this thing and it’s not like you’re in danger but it is always in the back of your mind.

On the upper right of this photo is the town we left our other car at. Hard to tell but we are still 450 meters above sea level and the town is a good 8 kilometers off.

Very cool! Really interesting terrain with LOTS of history. I bet that watchtower is very old. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic pics! Ireland is one of the few places I haven't been and really need to plan a trip, thanks for sharing I'm extremely jealous!

THose cliffs are epic. my wife is going there for part of our Europe trip, that part being with her Dad as I will be at the Woodsmoke symposium. I think those cliffs will be the highlight of her trip.

Great photos. You were really lucky with the weather! It's piddling down here at the moment!
