Don't buy the BR models...

One day, I was happy with my almost too pretty to use old 110. Then, I started getting more 'pretty' knives. Some knives are just too pretty to whittle with - as I thought using my 192 one day. Still, I found I had to have the AG version... it got very little use - and is a 'display' item now. The same thing happened with the 102BR - although it was a great woods walking companion - then the 103, 105, 119, & 120, all BRs. I eventually got a 'user' 119 & 120, with Al & phenolic.

I guess it is more a sign of the time of my life - I'll hit sixty this summer. What am I doing with all of these knives? Why, I look at most of them! Not just Bucks - and I have a few custom 110s, etc, and the K-Ps - I have Bark Rivers, Marbles, and Pumas, too. What screw loosened and fell out of my head? What caused this madness? I traced it back to that first purchase in the BR style... a 'too pretty to use' knife. The solution is simple... buy the plain Jane versions - ugo's rule! With that in mind, I have ordered an 005GY rather than grab a remaining 005LE. I also plan on using it...

See the mess?

PS That's a hex sided glass display case from a gift shop for $75 - neat display, twin quartz lamps, mirrored bottom, and two fixed glass shelves, with enclosed/locked base storage, using the same key as the display door. Check stores frequently - they are always dropping lines - and closing!

You say you are almost sixty. At what age did the disease (knifenut syndrome) become full blown? I had some symptoms when I was a kid, but it really got worse around 25.

I don't have any of the BR models...

They are in the 'Dealer Catalog' from Buck - or from other retailers. Store fixture sellers have similar items. If you find them 'cheap' somewhere, let me know... I need more!

Well, it really manifested itself within the last few years. I got chased off my favorite interstate exit with my " Broke... Need buck$ for Bucks!" sign, yesterday, too.

There is a Puma 'Hunters Pal II' and Bear MGC stag handled hunter, too - had to be an 'Alabama connection'! The far left is the AG 192 - not seen are the 408 & 419 K-Ps. The upper deck is folder-city - a few Pumas - and lots of Bucks - mostly 110s. The bottom deck is mainly biggies - KaBars, Bear Bowie, BR goodies, Marbles, etc. Nothing compared to some folk's collections, but, 'Crap - what was I thinking?' to me nonetheless (I have too many hobbies.). Maybe my 'First Americans' heritage... probably a hunter/gatherer somewhere in the past. Naw, just a packrat.

LOL....Stainz,

Your asking yourself the same questions that my wife ask's me every time I tell (ask) her I'm getting a new knife...or when a package come's in the mail from another new knife that.....well another new knife I forgot to tell her about. Are you married?.....if so your wife is sending you subliminal messages.....if your not married your letting your guilt on enjoying yourself to much get to you....Heck...some guys go the local watering hole every week and spend more on entertainment that we do on knives and have nothing more than and empty wallet and a headache.....at least we have the empty wallet and a bunch of hunted down and gathered Buck knives to enjoy for years to come;).

Your being to tuff on yourself brother....I like your "broke....need bucks for Buck's" idea:D. But, you can always follow my lead and sell of all of the non-Bucks for more bucks for Buck's!!!!!

Yeah the old 'Ball and Chain' has a few words to share with me about my hobby expenditures... usually things like - 'Nice knife... where's mine?'. Really, I am blessed... she is a bit younger than me - and puts up with my hobbies quite well. I have approached my knife collecting a bit scattered in direction over the years. I acquired the ones I 'wanted' - and moved on - except for Buck - I really like them - and keep coming back. Case in point - Bark River... I bought the few I wanted - newer/fancier ones don't interest me. Marbles? I have enough of their MI models - more recent variants just don't do it for me. Bucks? I couldn't stand the wait last year for the #408 Kalinga Pro - but it was worth it! I am awaiting the new 005s - the GY is on the way... where is the RW? Oddly, I want another Buck 102BR as a user... go figure.

BTW, sharing some hobbies with my bride has proven to be embarrassing. Case in point - I took her to three shooting events in the last year or so - a steel plate challenge, a rimfire rifle silhouette match, and a rimfire handgun silhouette match. I practice... she won't touch a firearm for 1.5+ years! Ah, at least she won us lunch money at two of them. Beat me at all of them - and I shoot a lot.

I still blame the BR models for my collecting and displaying Bucks!

Perhaps you have a new take on this, Stainz? Looks like she is suggesting you buy two at a time- duplicates. A His-n-Hers. May I encourage that next time the order is placed for Bucks? "Here Darling, this one is your!" Worth a try? Maybe there are reasons I am not married :( ... :)

Well, consider a nice kitchen set from Buck....And Buck has made some really nice "ART" knives in the 500 series that would make a great purse Buck...

That RH stand has, top down: 120, 119, 105, 103, 102; all BRs. The LH only has the 192AG visible, but the 419 & 408 are there, too.

My wife is not to have anything sharp edged at work, but carries a miniature set of folding scissors and Kershaw Rainbow Chive. I tried to get her to combine and carry a Vic SAK 'Classic', but she insisted she wasn't Mrs MacGyver. If my Buck Prince was pink, she'd probably carry it. Not a bad idea, buying 'two at a time'...
