Don't companies like CRKT visit forums like this one and do a little research?

I think CRKT has always had weird looking stuff. I actually have no idea how they stay in business.

I wonder how a lot of knife companies stay in business. I always chalk it up to the fact that the normal guy who buys a knife does not look on these forums, he buys what is low in price, and looks cool to them.

I'm not really saying anything about that specific knife, just in general.

The ultima looks fine to me. Not my style, but it's not that far out.

If no one would make knives that looked weird, well, there'd be no spyderco.

The ultima's press release said that the handle hits 22 of 24 ergonomic grip points on the hand or something. It may be reeeallly comfortable.

CRKT is an extremely successful company that puts out a number of popular knives. The company itself would be much more popular if it ran a forum here, but that's their choice.

Their knives sell. They have a tremendous variety -- reaching different markets. They have cheap, yes, and they also have excellent premium materials and design.

Do you really think so? I have seen it pointed out many times that the cheaper Kershaws, Bucks, and Gerbers sold at Walmat vastly outsell any S30V knives sold by Benchmade and Spyderco. I don't know if it's true, but I know people in general like to buy cheap stuff.

Majority of the people don't know any better but to buy the cheap stuff cause thats what they think is a great deal though they don't know about materials used.

For an example about a week ago a kid in my shop class was talking about how this guy he knows got i believe 10 knives for 5 bucks. I said its probalbly a piece of crap but he kept arguing that it was sharp and that its stupid to spend a lot on a knife.

Some people you just can't change:o

Walking Man, I meant they would be more popular here with a manufacturer forum. They are already popular among the general public or I imagine they would change their offerings.

Along the lines of Esav's post, we're really not CRKT's market.
CRKT has some okay knives. I bought the limited edition Wasp, and it's better than most of William Henry linerlocks, IMO. But they didn't sell well at all. They have their niche, and do very well in it. They are a business and if selling cheaper knives makes money for them, they owe it to their families to continue doing so.

IF they were SMART they would go back to using AUS-8 in ALL their M-16 varrients, not just the LEO/Military/TITANIM ones.

If you look hard you cas still find the zytel modle in AUS-6...but the new ones are AUS-4. :(

The Ultimas compliment your Nissan Altimas.

Nah but it looks ok. Not outrageous or anything.

Im not sure how well they will be doing soon...One of my friends fathers got a new CRKT knife as a present and he was talking very highly about it one day and then a while later he was cmplaining how crappy the steel on the blade was and how he had to sharpen it all the time. He is an auto mechanic and knows a little about steels and was saying they should make the blade out of a CPM steel or tool steel to make a better blade. I told him about benchmade and spyderco who offer great knives for a reasonable price and he said he would look into them. So I think that slowly people may get fed up with the horrible steel theyre using now and maybe search around more before they buy...hopefully.

I would buy a CRKT folder in a minute if they had 2 things:

1. Reliable lock
2. Better grade steel

By the way, those "ooze grooves" "which channel away water, mud and oil..." on that fixed blade tactical remind me of the Goodyear Assurance tire treads on my car.

Coming soon to a truckstop/tobacco store display case near you with the revolutionary CrapEx sheaths, and an aura of 2,000 year old gladiator mystique..

An if it's really successful, perhaps those two honorable, uber-honest guys on the shopping channel could peddle it as well..

Smart for who? Smart for you?
I'll bet anything that it was a money making move. I'm sure most of the buyers don't know the difference. Cheaper steel = more profits. The amount of money that they are making is probably vastly outweighing the loss of sales.
Don't forget, the #1 slipjoint in the USA is Case, and look at what steel they use. :barf:
I agree they definately need to work on their locks.
