Today... wife and I walking thru a local hardware store....just as I saw it she kicked
it forward. Picked up what turned out to be a Boker U.S.A. 82 88 2 blade (Carbon
Steel) pen knife. Asked 4 employees in the immediate area and check out if any
lost a pocket knife. None claimed it. I hope the prior owner is doing o.k....I know
I'd be bummed. Checked back... no claim filed.

I know nothing about these knives... I thought they were Made in Germany ? If any
know what the scales are please let me know. Seems like a well made pen knife.

They look to me like Jigged delrin.
I do not know the history of the Boker USA knives but believe they had knives made here for white a while.

Thanks HNS. This is my first pen knife... 2 1/2 " seems too small to be practical.
I can really understand how it fell from prior owners pocket ... needs a clip or case
to increase the pocket profile. I can see myself losing this one.
The jigged Delrin scales are very nice... no visible "Tree Brand" logo on the main
blade.

The Boker USA knives I have (large Stockman, and large Trapper) were made in China. I believe their blades are 440A. At least they are marked "440A".
The "Tree Brand" marking/etch is only on the knives made in Germany.

Thanks FishHunter.... so, a USA/China blend. Will try to find a use for this
knife. I held them in higher esteem when I thought they were from Solingen.

This is a vintage knife in carbon steel, it is not made in China.
From as far back as the 20's I believe Boker had knives made here in the US ( the electrician pattern is a common one ) and I'm not positive but I believe there was at some point a connection to PAL.
If not them one of the other New York firms for sure.

Btw I can assure you 2-1/2" is one of the most practical sizes of knife there is, and I just bought a Case peanut today because of this.
I've got no problem carrying larger knives but i sure love my little ones quite a bit.
I have a number of knives in this size range and they never get lost, I'd have to forget I had a knife in my pocket for that to happen.
They're perfect for watch pocket carry.

What a sweet vintage find. Congrats.

I think one of the emblems (shield in particular) that throws people off track for point of origin, is the new-ish, tree image with the word "Germany" under it. Most likely Chinese.

"Solingen"=German made.
"Germany"=China made.

But that's just for modern Boker models in the "value" line. Not vintage Boker, Boker Solingen, Boker Plus, Boker Magnum, Boker USA, Boker Arbolito, etc.

Go to the Boker section in the Manufacturers' forum. Lot of info there on where the current Bokers are made, they can probably help you. Yours looks like it may be older, but hard to tell from the pics. And I don't think any of the Chinese made Bokers are carbon steel, but not 100% sure.

The shield looks like it has a ® symbol next to the tree. I'd say USA made after 1976.

I used to find things on the ground all the time. My mother said it was because of my bad posture.

Do I need a phone to see imgur linked pictures, or is there a way to do it on my laptop? Already posted this in the tech section.

For knife content, yes Boker, old German company. Going there next month.

You probably already noticed - the pattern of the "jigging" on your knife appears to be identical to that on his, as well.

Sorry for the confusion, I just embedded one of the OP's pictures.
I do have a whittler with that same style of Delrin "stag", although the shield was missing when I got it.

Wow ! Great information shared by all. Thank you. I have to be honest...now really
feel bad for the prior owner knowing the knife may be 30-40 years old. I will re-connect
with the Hardware store and see if anybody asked about a "'found" knife.

R8shell... identical Delrin scales.... I think they did a very nice job with the jigging and
coloration. I would suspect ours are similar vintage and batch #. You have a beautiful
knife. (You are correct ...R in a circle near the tree base... good eyes ) !

cjtamu.... good rec. on visiting the Forums Manuf. page..... tons of information,
and opinions. Good stuff.
