But I dont see the appeal for blades with the excess of 6 inches! But I KNOW I AM IN THE MINORITY!

I mean I have a Hell Razor, its a great blade but I am trading it in for a smaller Busse. I just couldnt see myself with the Hell Razor strapped on and watching the 1SG looking at me like I was acting crazy.

I just wish we could have more blades like the BA3, AD, HD, MS, LMS. Stuff I can strap to my MOLLE Gear and be good to go in the field! Great thing about smaller fixed blades is NO NEED for expensive folders like SNGs and SMFs. No such thing as a lock failure!

Well I guess its time to wait for the AD, MS and BA3 to make an encore appearance. Anyone have any predictions?

Went to a retirement party last Sat. My former 1SG asked me if I still had "that big ass knife" (SHBM). Then he asked if I wanted to sell it!!!!!!!!!!
He gave me some grief when he first saw it but he sure did use it alot at times.

Last week I cleared a fence line of small saplings and vines using a Battle Rat.
It was the perfect tool for the job. I easily did the job in half the time it would have taken with my lopping shears, and an axe would have been useless on the vines and smaller saplings. That is one task where a big knife is clearly superior. (Incidently, I hit the chain link fence several times with no discernable effect whatever on the edge. I finally managed to chip it a little when I hit a rock.)

However, in general I use the smaller Busses 10 to 1 over the larger knives.
What I do not really understand is not the larger blades, but the mania over the extra thick ones. Maybe they would split wood better, I dunno. Given a choice, I will take the thinner versions every time for users. (Except for some safe queen duty, of course.):D

well you could have used a weed whacker too, I believe that's the perfect tool for that job. It may even be more fun if you put the chopping blades on it too.

I think I understand where you're coming from. For me, the blade size requirement is an environmental issue: What do I need? What will I practically carry?

My EDC bag for office, work site, & car always has a well loved Howling Rat. It's big enough to perform heavy cutting tasks, I can clip the BB kydex sheath and tek-lok to side carry or small of back unobstrusively, and I've given it a convex stropped edge that is wicked sharp but still strong.

For camping, I thought I needed at least a 9" blade for chopping/splitting/batoning, but my first experience with my Ratweiler showed me that 7", designed properly, were more than big enough.

I bought a Hell Razor, too. I am very happy with it since I think it will fit the bill between the HR and RW. Lighter to carry, a bit "slicier," quicker in the hand than the RW. Still long enough to practically baton thru wood and, with the hand filling mag handles, a secure grip.

I can't wait to see how my new Heavy Heart will do with the camping chores?!

Oh, I beg to differ put some metal blades on a weed whacker and you can go around chopping down trees, fences, etc. Does that mean chain saws are for city boys too  The general lee and I take offense to that statement.
