Alrighty, this is going to sound stupid, but I don't sell my knives and I make them for myself and just for fun. Got a knife all heat-treated and ready for a handle. The tang is about 3-inches and I was going to do a model #16-type military handle, but then I did the ol' "what if?" (which usually leads me to the hospital, or jail). Anyway, when I was a kid, I fell for the trap and bought the Rambo First Blood knife, and not the Lile version -- the crappy United Cutlery one. I've still got it and I was thinking about stealing the handle. How can I attach this thing without it breaking off the first time I use it?

You don't have to steal the one from your other knife. Texas knifemakers used to sell a surival handle with a compass in the screw down butt cap. You might want to check with them.

I saw that one, I'm about to make an order today from them, and might consider that one instead. But stealing the one off the Rambo knife really isn't going to hurt my feelings any. :)

Good idea, Mike. To make my first lockblade I tore down a cheap lockblade to see what made it tick. Those cheepo parts are still scattered around somewhere. Their bones served their purpose.

Buy the stainless steel handle from Texas knifemakers supply. The United Cutlery knifes handle is aluminum and will deform around the blade handle juncture when force is applied to the blade like chopping wood etc, resulting in a loose blade and guard, thats what happened to mine anyway.
