Don't Laugh!

I bought a Sog Seal Pup M37 from a dealer off the internet. I got it Monday. I went to insert the knife into the sheath and it doesn't seem to want to fit. Okay, maybe I'm not doing it right. So off I go to the local HOK to check out the Pup they have. No I didn't think to take mine. Knife in the store fits good. I come home and try again. No luck. Maybe I'm not pushing hard enough.
SNAP, in it goes. DOH!!! The tip pushed right through the end of the sheath!

Please tell me, besides the obvious, what I did wrong. Has anyone else done this? Is something like this covered under warranty?
