Don't yet own a Spyderco but a local dealer has a "Police" at what appears to be a decent price. Have seen little mention of the "Police" model in these forums so would appreciate some comments from the forum members on this particular model. Thanks . .

The Police is a "classic" Spyderco design- one of the first if I'm not mistaken. Hard to go wrong with one of those- but be prepared- the Spyderco "bug" (it's a bug for good reason!) WILL bite you & you will feel compelled to own more of them. Start looking at the on-line vendors now for your next one... deciding which one is to be next is the fun part.

The police is a nice one, but not as nice as the Wegner or Military. If you look at some online dealers you can find some good buys on these. Check out www.toptexknives.com www.discountknives.com and www.mjsknives.com
Unfortunately Spyderco does not want people to publish anything but the suggested retail price. You may have to email for current pricing.

For what it's worth, I like the police
lots more than the military, and about
as much a the Wegner.

If possible try the other two if they have
them.

I'm with DaveH, I like the Police better than the Military. Definitely don't be shy about picking up a Police, it's a great first choice!

Thanks for the info, guys. I really value your input. In browsing internet dealers, I became aware that the Police model is available in either a stainless or G10 handle. For some reason, the model with G10 handle is somewhat more expensive. Seems that stainless steel would be the correct choice, but maybe it is too "slick". Any comments on the preferred handle choice?

Thanks again.

i don't own either police, but overall i like the G-10 models better. it is lighter, has more "grip" and doesn't look as bad as the stainless when you get some scratches on it. the newer G-10 models also have a flat grind on them, which i much prefer. rugger was right too, once you get one spyderco, you never have enough!

Go for the G-10. I have the stainless scales and they are nowhere near as ergonomic as the G-10 on my Military or StarMate. The best of the three is the StarMate, IMHO. I LOVE IT!

that's the one type of knife I'll never buy. Just don't like em...

definately g-10 with the police. Not as slick or heavy. Also the new g-10 models are flat ground.
