Yeah, I know you do.
I feel the jealousy through teh internetz.
I was going through, doing my usual knife checkups last night, when I realized I haven't seen my BK14 in a little while. Got to thinking about the last time I used it, and I remembered where I left it, on my Nalgene Murse, which, was with me on my last outting. When I got back, I just threw a bunch of my gear in a corner, with the promises of "taking care of it later". That was 3 weeks ago.
So, I found my beloved BK14 right where I had left it, pulled it out of the sheath, and TEH RUSTZ!!!!!!!
I had cut up some meat, veggies and fruits, and just threw it back in the sheath. Plus, I got rained on pretty good on the walkabout, so it had been sitting there, rusting in place for about 3 weeks. TEH RUSTZ!!!!one!!! O NOES!!!!! Big, flaky, orange rust. No big.
So, first step, was some 00 steel wool, some mineral oil. Knocked the heavy stuff off, which left an awesome patina, but it was too much of a contrast for me, so, out came the 400gt W/D sandpaper. A few minutes of sanding, and it was shiny and new again. So, I kicked up to 600gt, then some 0000 steel wool. It was even shinier.
Can't have bare steel, so, I put a patina on it. And here is the final product.
Oh yeah, figured while I was at it, might as well throw a new, polished edge on it, and get her ready for some action, got a busy weekend planned.
So, think your BK14 is as sexy as mine? Don't talk about it, prove it.
