Guys,

We rented Mr. "The Rock's" film Doom last night...

Aw man...those Zombies moved fast!

BUt the film...was kind of so-so!

I want a BFG! Gotta have it for them fast movers!

What'd you guys think of Mr. "The Rock's" movie?

Haven't had a chance to watch it, but was willing to spend 1.98 to see it at the discount theater.

Didn't find time, though. :)

I have it coming via Netflix, but it's way down the list around # 20 or something. I think this is a step back in the Rock's acting from what I heard. He was pretty good in the Scorpion King. I think you should have a MAXIMUM of 3 movies that use your old professional name to sell your movie. "The Rock" has used that up. Now Dwayne Johnson is going to have to stand up on his own accord. I think the guy is pretty good in front of the camera. Is he Tom Hanks?? No, not by a long shot. But by God does he act circles around Terry "Hulk" Hogan. Rowdy Roddy Piper? "They Live" was a fun cheesy sci-fi flick, but he's not very good. Now Andre' the Giant. He was pretty fun to watch. He seemed like a sweet guy, but you couldn't understand what the heck he was saying...ever.

The movie didnt do much justice to Dwane "The Rock" Johnson. Its ok and somewhat entertaining - if it had a better director who actually cared, it might have been lots better.

I happen to think The Rock is a terrific athlete and probably has enough smarts and presence to make it as a movie star. One of the few "action actors" who could pull off comedy roles.

I would watch any "Rock" movie instead of a recent Steven Seagal one. Come to think of it, I would watch any episode of Monday Night Raw rather than one of Seagal's recent movies and I'm not even a fan of Pro Wrestling....

Jet Li's new period movie "Fearless" is fantastic though :)

You make an excellent point that I wanted to make, but forgot:foot: , that Johnson (with some work) is well on his way to acting circles around "third string" action "stars" like Seagal and JCVD. Neither of them has made a passable movie in a decade. Even Sly needs to rethink himself. I like the guy. I think he's entertaining, but he's signed on to do Rocky 6 and Rambo 4. I kid you not. There is going to be Rambo 4. I know where you guys think this is going to go if you've seen part 3. Ya know, the one where we send in Rambo to help the poor Taliban defeat the evil USSR? In part 4, Rambo is NOT going to get revenge on the Taliban. He is NOT going to after the "kid" in the 3rd one that he gives his jade Buddha necklace to. He is NOT going to fight terrorists of any kind:eek: How weak is that? He's the reported plot:
John Rambo is now retired but does little side jobs here and there for the government. He has settled down and has a half Navjo daughter (what??). Soon, somehow, Neo-Nazis (not makin' this stuff up folks) move in and kidnap his daughter. Now, Rambo must go after them and rescue his daughter.
I'm sure that this is going to get a re-write. I hope to hell it does, because that story not only sucks, not only does not fit Rambo's character. It has already been done. It was done in 1985 and was called "Commando" staring Ah-nuld. In case you can't tell, I'm pissed about it. Once again, hollywood will give us throngs of gay cowboys (nothin wrong with gay cowboys. I just don't want action flicks to die because of it), but they are so scared of offending someone besides the "right" that they will come up with the most weak-sauce plots just to whore out a few tickets.
I hope Dwayne Johnson is the next big action star. We need one to bring back the genre from the pansy fringe. We need someone to kick @$$ and take some names. No more Seagal "oil-giants are trying to bulldoze the rainforest while systematicly kick every eskimo in his junk that need to be taught a little justice...Seagal style". No more half baked mush mouth JCVD. You had Bloodsport. It was good. You are old. You are DONE. No more paycheck movies for Sly or Ah-nud if he gets back into movies. Real action, real stories. Shooting, explosions, fighting, maybe a bit of partial nudity, and 95 mins of mindless entertainment.

Dang, Jake.....you really lay it on the line. :p

Can't say I disagree with any of it!

This is blasphemy, but I hate Doom style video games  . Makes me sick, my eyes start hurting, etc. I was interested in seeing the movie, I knew it wouldn't be the Godfather, but when I saw how it was filmed, just like the game, I wrote it off the rent list (no, there isn't one... anymore :o .

The DOOM series were great for that time period when they came out. It paved the way for todays modern 3D FPS games that bring in stacks of cash to their creators. I haven't seen the movie, but I think it would be cooler if it was filmed in a first person pont of view. A Wolfenstein movie might be a better idea.

Guys,

Sorry I did not get back to this thread...my little guy had to spend yesterday and last night and most of today in the hospital with RSV...he's home now....and doing better...

Did anybody see Mr. The Rock's movie...Be Cool? The sequel to get shorty...I think?

OMG the Rock as a homeosexual tough guy! I about peed my pants...the whole movie they got him doing these bits...he stole the show...

Honestly...I only got Doom....to see what he was up to...

His movie Rundown is a must....if nothing else to see him fear "unkeys"...and the penis eating minnows...

I would rather watch Mr The Rock than most of the action guys...he's just getting his talent ready for that one big break...it's coming pretty soon...

ANyway...I had occasion to meet the one of the guys who invented/programmed Doom ...and Quake...and so on...different sort of a guy...but nice enough...

Doom...is well worth $1.98...
