Dorado thumb studs

I've been carrying my Dorado a lot more these days while the Mayo's in the shop. It's a great edc, but the thumb studs are just a little too tall for me. They look like four small cylinders stacked upon each other. I'd like to file them down and remove the top cylinder. Does anyone know if will this cause me any problems? I assume they are a male/female press fit design and I don't want to cut into anything internal.

Hey Blue Sky.. I have a Rose Dorade and I carry it when I am not at work.
I have not had any problems with the thum studs.I am not sure how they
are done so I am not much help. Mybe some one here that does know
will come along and help you out.;)

Thanks for bumping this up Jeff.
I too love that Rosie Dorado (thanks for the recommendation to try it).
Thumb studs are fine for me but I am curious about the solution to Blue Sky's issue.

From looking at mine I would say its one bar that has been lathed into the final design. Which would make more sense as that would be easier than press fitting small cylinders on a mass production line.

Just my opinion tho... and I am not a expert.

The studs are turned from one piece I'm sure, like you said. My guess is one will have blind hole where a pin on the other will press in, after passing through the hole in the blade. My concern is, how deep is the hole? If I file off the top cylinder, will I cut into and expose it? I think I might just do it and see...

It would be fun to see what you find Blue Sky. Are you right handed?

Please post a pic if you can
Thanks

Well I did it this evening. Locked the blade in a vise and used a sharp file to take off the top cylinder. Then I cleaned them up with 600 grit sandpaper, then a quick polish with Simichrome. Pretty easy, they were soft and the only trick was to keep the surface flat and not cut into the next cylinder. I like them better this way and there's still plenty left to open the blade. I toyed with the idea of going a little further but figured I'd get into trouble if I went too far.

Why do it? I usually carry it loose in my back pocket and when I'm sitting down I could always feel them jabbing me. I also noticed they were tearing into the sheath a bit.
