my oh my that YCS is truly amazing. some good stuff popping up on the DOTDs so far, thanks for running the show Ted!

I think thats one of the first Katars i've seen for sale in the 4 years i've been here. Its pretty awesome looking.

When the lucky winner gets it I hope he will post a mini review. I'd be interested to know how it feels in the hand.

Everyone with a falcata should have one of these.;)

Agreed....now I just need to get a falcata first;) Ted, if you talk to Yangdu please let her know that i'm in a very weak state right now. If the uber-zombie killer that is the falcata came up on a DOTD sometime next month...well, I'm feeling weak willed;)

Guys that YCS is a steal at that price. They were going for well over 200 bucks just a couple years ago...before inflation;)

A KATAR!

Rarist of HI's... easier to snag a Yeti tooth than one of those.

Mike

I thought a Katar was a Yeti's tooth!

On that YCS, what are the tools? Looks like two kardas and a 3-sided chakma, am I right? How big are the handles on the karda(s)?

I believe you are correct on the tools. Both kardas are sharpened and the other tool is three sided and looks like it would be used as a chakma. The kardas are about 7.5-8" OAL if I remember. I can double check when I get home from work.

That YCS looks great -- it appears a bit less curved than most (I like them straighter, they seem to draw from the sheath better). My belief based on the style, size, and weight is that it would be an outstanding chopper, and look great doing it!! Perhaps a bit heavy for hanging on the belt for a long hike, but as a camp ax replacement or to clear brush like you mean it, you'd have a hard time finding a better choice.

Wow to have the money for that YCS. Makes my credit card twitch...Is there a sheath with it? Can we see it?

The 3 sided tool is an awl. Yvsa sent them the models, but the point on the awl was blunted in transit. Now, they make all of the awls like that.

Ya gotta re-grind them to get the original tip. I have one of the first YCS that I keep in a shadow box on the wall. It has a pointy awl.
Mrs. Smith takes it down and puts flowers in its place. I take them down and replace the YCS. Simple.

I always thought it was supposed to be an awl, until I actually saw one in person and noticed the flattened tip. I figured it must be a newfangled chakma.:o
