In my quest to figure out what is rare and odd in the 112 series I've been trying to know for sure when Buck went to full radiused frame, front bolster only and the slight difference in the early hand radiused and later machined radiused 112's. This is the same time frame Buck also transitioned from 2 dot to 3 dot blades making it harder to recognize a real rarity from one that's just not seen often. Since Buck is known for odd knives that 'Should not be' but are found I've been trying to get a sense of what to look for. I believe now that the Stag 112's especially don't follow the general rules of when radiused bolsters and the 3 dot blades come together.
Three dot blades are generally considered to be 1980 to 1981 and then Buck went to 4 dot to signify a change in production and radiused frames are 'generally' from 1982 on. So a 112 with a 3 dot blade and radius frame isn't quite right..I'm still working it all out with the Stag 112's especially how many 3 dot versions were made as Joe said in a old thread 1400 were made in the 80's..but I can't believe there's a lot with 3 dot blades..

I would think Joe would be the guy to know.

I'm not following your question, but I have:

3 two dot 112 with squared bolsters.
1 three dot 112 with rounded bolsters.
1 three dot 112FG with rounded bolsters.

Does that help?

*** Note: Heavily edited because my records are somewhat flawed...

Especially a two dot with finger grooves, which was never produced by the factory.

Hang on...

Geesh, guys, I apologize for the above. I pulled out the knives to take pictures, and it turns out I had them miscatalogued. I made a couple of edits :)

I was hoping you had one, although it would have been a custom.I wanted to see a picture,so I could copy it.I've been thinking about creating a finger groove two dot 112.

I read a old thread that mentioned a "Cottage Industry" making 3 dot finger grooved 112's and I have a faint memory that said a few 2 dot blades finger grooved were known but the general consensus is they were employees knives. Absolutely few 3 dot FG are found NIB with the correct brown shieth. There was a FG 3 dot Stag on the bay that was over 200.00 when I quit looking..There should be no radiused 2 dot 112's and very few 3 dot since the overlap could only be a limited time. Trying to figure out the number of Stag 112's period is difficult to pin down. Joe said 1400 from 1981 to 1987 (if I remember correctly) but few early knives are offered for sale. Im trying to figure out what the rarest combination of dot blades hand a machined radiused and square frames in Stag is..
