Let it also be said that dots were generally added when a design/function change was made though it may not be outwardly visible. Then there are variations of desing within a dot catagory. For example the 2 dot ran from 74-80 but with in that version there were at least 4 variaitions. Different variations had visible differences such as number of scale rivots or location and number of bolster rivots and so forth. To get further confusion see this thread which is a sticky toward the top of the main Buck forum page.

also check out this thread to see the kind of scrutinization and conversation trying to nail down a particual version and variation(though this one doesnt have dots)

Very interesting. So is dot a acronym for Date Of T_____, or is it called a dot because they actually used to use dots (.) on the blade?

Next question:

I have a few 110's. What is the significance of the word CUSTOM on the one and not on the other? They're both Yellowhorse customs. Also, why does only one state that it is a 110?

Buck has a custom shop that tailor makes a certiain variety of knives-right now it is restricted to the 110 and Alpha Hunter fixed blade-see the Buck website under Build your own. The Custom stamp would be on any of those. Yellowhorse is contracted by Buck to make his customs to be put in the Catalog, they would also show custom in most or all circumstances. I believe limited edition knives may or may not come with a custom shop tang stamp, which is the anvil accompanied by the word "custom". The anvil is also the 2002 date code and if it is not accompanied by custom, you can assume it is a 2002 blade. Yellowhorse also has his own business outside of Buck contracts so the one on the rt is most likely one of those and the down arrow is the 2007 date stamp.

Dot is not an acronym and only signifies that on either or both sides of the tang stam there is a dot-cant believe I dont have a better pic than this but here is a 2 dot
