Has anyone ever taken off the second ring? I'm thinking about removing it but I'm wondering if it would compromise the integrity of the knife since it looks like the ring stabilizes the design.

Unless you want to baton with it (and why would you?) I dont think you will have any problems with that. Still plenty of steel there to keep it together. Looks better that way too in my own opinion.
