You guys seem to know a lot about this sort of stuff, so I figured I'd ask here. Would a 2 bladed spoke shave be a good choice for general work? Or would it be best to get one of each instead? Thanks.
Are you talking about one of those shaves that has both a straight and a rounded blade? If so, they work but the ones I've seen don't have adjustment screws like a Stanley 151 or it's clones. I seldom (but occasionally) use the rounded blade. It's difficult to sharpen the round blade precisely.

Clamp a ceramic rod or stone (wrapped in some padding material) gently in a vice. Hold the proper angle and then rotate the edge around the rod or the edge of the stone. Another option is to shape a piece of wood to mate with the curve and then apply sandpaper to it to make a custom-shaped stone. There are lots of different ways to tackle the problem--just gotta' find the way that'll work best for you!
