Thats Sweet is that a Clip point on a Camp Tramp ? Is it factory or did someone modify it ?

I modify the knife.

After re - finishing (also clip the point), I soak the knife in water and allow it to be rusted before the Sand Blast Process.
The reason why I did that because I wanted the rustable mulecules to get rusted and I remove the rusted sueface then the remaining or new surface will have better ability against rust.

Great job dick:thumbup: , knife looks fantastic, hav a question . when you soak the knife for awhile is there a possiblity that water will get under the grip and start an under rust ? or do you treat the area will some kind of protectant before soaking.

There is no clearance in between the grip and it is impossible that water could go in there.

Great work Dick! What equipment / tools did you use for this work?

Hand Grinder for Clip Point.
Sand Belt for flat part of the blade.

I have our technician to for me under close instruction.
The tool is working at very high RPM and the Blade Material after Hardenning ius not very easy to handle and dangerous too.
The best way is to have somebody who is on the tooling everyday to handle the job.

Beautiful work.
Dick, can you do it for my Camp Tramp? I mean if you do customizations in general...

Thanks to evey one who like the job.
Thanks 360joules for the trust :) ...... but please do not expect too much cause I might disappoint you sometimes :D

Typically, I tend to shy away from modifications to blades because the thought is, "how can me and my ignorance improve on a design that has, no doubt, already been run around the block more time than I can count by experts who know way more about knives than I ever will?" Well, this knife is making me reconsider my position. Simply put, you did an outstanding job!!!

Thanks Gator 97. (seems to me I used to buy a Spyderco from you sometimes ago through Ebay and you were kind enough to ship to my freind in USA although the condition was not to ship outside USA ......thanks again :) )

Gator 97, the distance could be the problem. I am in Thailnad. :)

Thanks,

For my idea ......the manufacturer of Swamp Rat just try to make good knives at the better affordable price for me and to go for the price they have limitation on the manufacturing cost so the product had left some room to possibly improve the knife.

it took me sometimes to start modifying Rats because I also afraid to dammage it too.:)

Hi edge,

That used to be my thinking as well, but I later decided that it should be the customers use of a product that dictate how the company makes it, not the other way around. The Swamp does this pretty well. They make the best off the shelf blade for most uses, but they still make models that are designed to accomodate the majority. I have specific needs based on the way I use my blades, which may not be to the liking of most blade users.

Until I can afford a custom blade, I'll just have to settle for modifications. ;)
