Oink, Oink my good men,

I've been lurking for a while and have picked up a couple Busse and SR goodies through the exchange and the company store...I am just floored by trhe quality and sheer bruteness(is that a word?) of these knives..So far I have

Rat Daddy
Ratweiler
ZTBM--sharpest knife I've ever owned..sheers newsprint with ease
MS
BA-E--most definitely the most stout little bugger I've ever held
SJT

My question is in regards to my MS..It's got what I assumed was a Satin finish but after researching a bit more I believe it may be double cut. It almost look like a silver coating rather than a hand rubbed satin finish..Am I correct in this assumption? Also, what actually is a double cut finish? Thanks in advance guys.

Welcome to the forum Jdunks!

Sounds like you are well on your way down the slippery slope of INFI addiction. I see you've also been bitten by the Rats in our sty. :D ;)

Regarding your MS, it certainly sounds like a double cut bead blast. The DCBB starts with a satin finish that is blasted twice, first with a fine silica media and then with glass beads to peen the surface and seal it.
Here's what Jerry posted on the Busse forum ---
"We blast each blade twice using two different types of blasting media in order to get the Double Cut finish. It's a pretty cool finish. . . .

Jerry "
And here's what a fellow Hog had to say about it on the Busse forum ---
"The double cut is also sort of a hand finished finish. Two medias are used in a blasting cabinet to first "cut" the steel surface and make it all pretty and matte like and then another media is used to smooth out results of the first media. (On a microscopic level, the first media tears open the steel surface and the second smoothes things out.)
[Strabs]"

If you can post a pic, please do. We always love to see INFI porn.

yup, he's right on all counts!

welcome jdunks!

ps: stay clear of those rat people, only bad things happen over there:eek:

Wlecome jdunks! Glad you could make it. Don't try to fight the maddness man... let come and embrace it. It's less painful that way.

Sounds like your MS could use a playmate... might want to check out the Exchange, a little bird told me there was another DCMS looking for a home there! :D

Thanks RV. I should have figured it was some sort of bead blast, but it's so smooth that I thought mayby there was the possibilty it might be coated..

Solstice,

I saw that...it's what prompted my question in the first place:D I have exactly the same thing only with black paper. I love it, though I'm getting drawn to the BA 3's as well..I might even get a HD if the Hogs would let em stick around long enough at the store...Man you guys work fast:D

You ain't lying bro... I've checked the CS all the time and I swear it hasn't change from the Dog Tags, Strop, and a NIP being up for sell. I'm beginning to think that all the Big Hogs have secretly changed the web address and haven't told any of us piglets! :grumpy:

Hello JDunks,
Welcome to the Busse forum, I'm glad that you stopped by.

There are some poor pics of some of the different finishes used on Busses in this thread
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=370327

The top is a satin finish, the second down is a camo using the satin finish and double cut finish. The 4th down is a Double Cut finish.

I hope you enjoy the forums
