can someone post or point me to a good pic of the double cut on a medium sized "something"? (close up would be nice!) and opinions pro  or con :thumbdn: with it?

thanks!

Here's a BOSS Street with the DCBB finish, below an SJTAC with a satin finish.

Unfortunately, both finishes are fairly difficult to photograph well. Hopefully someone with better photography skillz than me (not a difficult thing to accomplish) will be along shortly to post better pictures.

Here was one of my ASH's. I don't know if the pic's any better than MM's.

I prefer the double cut over the coated but satin is at the top. I think it all depends on what you want.
The only con I can think of is that it is more $ than the CG's.

Here You go:

This GW is double cut but it has satin finish net pattern.

And my double cut TB during tactical workout:

so they are both really "matte" with the satin being "matter" for lack of a better way to describe it?

The satin finish is a shinier hand finished type finish. The double cut is more of a matt grey type finish. If you look at mustard man's photo's the top knife the satin jack tac is shinier/satin finished. the lighting just is'nt quite right to see it real good. The bottom knife is a boss street prototype with the double cut finish. It's more of a matt subdued grey finish.

^^^ This

The satin is really hard to photograph because it's so shiny. Too much light and you end up with the whole thing washed out from all the light reflecting off of it, while the background gets too dark due to the huge difference in brightness.

The best way to photograph satin knives is outdoors on a cloudy day, but I settle for bouncing light off white walls or putting the knives into a crappy light box from harbor freight.

The Busse satin finish is similar to other production knives with a satin finish, the machine marks run from spine to edge, instead of lengthwise as in a hand finished knife. Quite fetching, but I'm partial to the frosted matte look of a Double Cut blade.

Just to drive home the point that the satin finish is absolutely a shiny finish, here's that same sjtac, outside on a cloudy day. Again, not the best picture, but it ought to show somewhat the difference that lighting can make in how a knife looks when you photograph it.

thanks gents this is great! any ideas why its called double cut?

First cut is a rough abrasive blast, this removes fine grind lines and small surface imperfections. 2nd cut is a glass or ceramic bead that peens the surface, creating the fine matte finish and closing the pores opened up with the abrasive blast.

three different finishes on the same knife, my CG ASH1 (factory DC and Magnum Black G-10):

the first shot is what I've jokingly called Triple Cut (factory DC, then Ghetto Satin, then Badblasted by a local shop). it's even rougher and more matte than the factory DC... and only cost $25 at a local shop which had it done in 48hrs.

this next one is factory DC... IIRC it was a $70 option when I ordered the knife from the factory, and it's a lighter gray and smoother finish than the one above:

and this last one is after it was given a Ghetto (homemade) Satin treatment by sanding it over and over by hand until the desired result was achieved:

ahhh... thus the other refereance to dcBB:thumbup:

you guys are the best... now with all that I still dont know which one I want more!
