Double detent.

I was making a scale for my 550 and cleaning the lint and gunk out of the pivot while I had it apart. I had to take a double look at the lock bar because there are 2 detent balls! I am pretty sure the top one was set in too far and they just decided to put the second one in because there was enough room or maybe it was in the wrong location? The detent works great and its very smooth. I never would have known if I had not looked.

Any one else have a double detent?

Whoa, i wasn't sure what to expect from your thread title, and although it has little functional significance, it is neat that you have a double detent on your 550.
 
Yeah Like I said I never would have known if I didn't have it apart to make a scale. I really don't take them apart just for the hang of it. It doesn't do anything wrong and is super smooth. I thought it was something cool to share and just had to see if I had the only one :D !
 
This thread must be named "show your 0550 balls"
can you make photo of the blade from the lock side, where hole(s) for balls?

A couple of wise Kai's eh? Maybe I'll just go play with my (detent) balls somewhere else. I like to play with them by myself anyway. ^Thats horrible^! Hey atleast having two is better than having one flat one right?

I've taken apart many 0550's, 1st and 2nd gens....never seen this yet! Hope a mod chimes in, it must have been more than just one knife that had this. If it was a stand alone issue, that's amazing attention to quality:-)
 
I also have this double detent on my gen one.. Weird. I am waiting for some one from Kai/ZT to chime in.
 
Just checked mine (0550BLK), and only one detent ball... It appears to be in the same relative position as the lower one in your pic. Does that upper detent ball align with anything on the blade?

You would think wouldn't ya!? It is not marked as such, and was purchased, or rather traded for from a B.F. paying dealer.

It is recessed deep in the hole so it is not protruding out to be in contact with anything. I did not notice another hole for that top one on the blade.
