So back in the day, research into building a 'survival' kit for my daypack brought me to looking for a blade for the survival pack with brought me to BladeForums which brought me to understand that the most important* thing in the world is batoning wood. Then I bought a BK2.
So below is documentation of the BK2's maiden voyage and my first attempt at this most esteemed of bushcraft techniques.
Unsuspecting pile of mesquite and palo verde, unaware of what's about to hit it, and a brand new BK2 most likely quite aware of what it's about to be hitting.
Here comes the first cut!
Thar she blows. No longer brand new.
The knife went through freshly-cut mesquite very, very easily.
Action shot! Motion blur! Feel the breeze on your face!
Now to try out that oh-so-hammerable pommel...
Suh-weet.
"That's not a baton... now THIS is a baton!"
Bigger stick worked great.
Kid3's turn.
"Now right there on your hand is where you'll probably smash yourself first."
Another satisfied Becker Knife & Tool customer.
Kid2's turn.
Genetics courtesy of her mom's side.
Fuzz stick. Lookit that blade; no longer mint.
So that was fun, and impressive. What a true tool, an amazingly sturdy piece of equipment. I have to say that having this knife is filling me with childish glee. Heading up to the mountains this weekend to camp with Kid2 and I'm so, so stoked to be bringing the knife with us and starting to actually use it for what it was intended.
* maybe not actually the most important thing in the world...
