Hi guys. I live in springfeild Missouri, and I went out and bought a normal folding lockback pocket knife from walmart today, and when I got home I decided to sharpen both sides of the blade. So now it is a double sided 3 inch pocket knife. So I'm wondering, would it be legal to carry this knife in my state?

Lol. No it's designed to where you won't cut yourself when u reach for it. Ya my mom was worried about that too. Lol.

Safety issues asside (I still don't know how this thing doesn't cut you), it's a little wobbly.

The law states:
(12) "Knife", any dagger, dirk, stiletto, or bladed hand instrument that is readily capable of inflicting serious physical injury or death by cutting or stabbing a person. For purposes of this chapter, "knife" does not include any ordinary pocketknife with no blade more than four inches in length;

It's really hard, if not impossible, to say if being a folder ("pocket knife") under 4 inches overrides "dagger" (meaning a double edged knife). It frankly would be up to the cop you pissed off enough to be searching you in the first place and the prosecutor to decide that matter.

Carrying openly is technically legal, because the weapon carry statute only has language about concealed carry.

ordinary pocketknives wouldnt be double edged.this would probably be considered a dagger or offensive weapon in most places.i am not a leo or a lawyer but common sense would tell me not to carry if in any doubt about legalness.court cases can be expensive.
