Double Edged Folders

Could anyone tell me any sites or stores that carry double edged tactical folders? The closest knife I have seen like this is the Applegate-Fairbairn folder but I believe the top is a false edge. I have never handled one though. Any help will be appreciated.

You can sharpen the false edge of the Gerber Applegate if you wish to do so since the entire blade is enclosed in the handle. In fact, there was a limited edition commemorative Gerber/Boker Applegate set that was sold a few years ago that included a plain edge Gerber Applegate Combat Folder with both sides sharpened and a Boker Applegate fixed blade mounted on a wooden plaque.
You can see pics of the set here:

You might also want check out the Starship folder by CAS Iberia.

Knifecenter.com carries them.

The Starship is the only production folder I know of that is sharpened on both sides, althouth I'd think twice about carrying one in an area with strict knife laws.

I have one and the top is a false edge. I sharpened mine w/o any problems. Pretty cool; however, I don't carry this knife around with me because I'm pretty sure it is not completely legal here in TX! :-)

Urobus, check your local laws regarding the carry of double edge knives before you consider carrying one. It's best to play it safe than to be sorry later on.;)

Interesting idea, but I don't think I would want to carry a folder with both edges sharpened, unless both edges were hidden inside the handle during carry. I could just imagine the amount of times I would cut myself grabbing for my knife.

The Rekat Pocket Hobbit kinda has both edges sharpeded. The back is roughly serrated. It is notsharpened or designed to cut, but appears like it could tear skin.

Hi Keith,

I agree! And at least in the case of the Applegate folder, the blade is safely tucked away entirely inside the handle. (Plus the knife is normally carried inside of the supplied sheath.)

Seriously though, I know that the Ka Bar Thorn by Dozier can safely be double sharpened and its D2 so it will hold an edge.

Hey thanks for all the replies everyone. I was more interested in owning a double edge folder for collecting rather carrying. I already carry an Emerson cqc7. The Ka Bar Thorn is an awsome knife thanks for posting the photo. I will check out all the links here shortly.

Uh.. maybe yours isn't. I have played with one off and on for a year or so, and the serrations on the back of it are scary scarp. If you used it to hook and pass someone's arm the cut would be horrific.

double edge knives are illegal in tx, same penalty as carrying a pistol too

i also looked at a REKAT pocket hobbit w/a certified concealed carry instructor in texas and we both agreed the hobbit would prob be seen by any LEO as a double edge weapon.......

Why exactly is the double edge illegal for? single or double edge are equally lethal on the hands of an expert, so why all the fuss in some states / countries?

I´d like to know the reasoning behind that law, just curious

Thnx

"I'd like to know the reasoning behind that law..."

Well, trying to find reason behind any law is usually pretty difficult. Most laws are crafted by people who, by definition, are not expert in the subject-they are lawyers, generally. Since double edged knives *seem* more dangerous, they are more regulated.

They have also, traditionally, been one way to denote a cutting tool designed expressly as a weapon.

I know that some states have specific references to double aged blades in their penal code. I have not seen it in the MO state code. Can anyone tell me definitively whether double edged blades are legal in MO?

If you are interested in how uninformed those who make the laws are go check out Bernard Levines Knife laws of the 50 states site and click on the link there on his article. Pretty interesting.

It's kinda rare that a regular folder would have a double edge, because usually the spine sticks out.
Quite frankly you're better off looking for balisongs (butterflies) because the design allows double-edges. But it has the same trouble as any double edged knives. They're more likely to be scrutinized by the law. For example, I'm not allowed to own one because they're banned in Canada. If found, the cops would seize it, and could charge me for possession of a prohibited weapon.

Cold Steel makes a so-called "Triple action folder" or whatever. It is a double edged folder and is legal to carry in Cali. It is on the CS website under folders, but of course you knew that. They also offer a tanto blade, but the double edged looks cooler.
