Double Edged Folders?

What do you guys think about folders with double edged blades? I have a request for a folder with a double edged blade where the blade will be completely covered when in the closed position. But I am a little concerned about the leading edge as the knife is opened or if it accidentally opened in the pocket because it will be sharp. Is anyone really building many double edged folders? If so, they must be off my radar because I have not seen many....

I have seen a couple of fully sharpened double edged folders and they were slick. The tricky part is getting the pivot in the right place so the blade is completely enclosed in the handle when the knife is closed. The only dwarback to this is that the thumbstud cutout in the handle tends to get pretty deep and sometimes the asthetics of the knife change. I have also seen a sharpened false edge like a bayonet grind which is a little easier to hide in the handle. I have considered putting a thumb disk or similar opener on top of the blade to minimize handle cut out depth.

though not double edged I just had a guy send a print of a folder
he wants me to make for him,
with the edge on the back side so it will present the same problem
your looking at. this guy must have a cad set up he did a very nice
print of what he wants..
it will be enclosed completely.
I'm gonea find out if he cares if I reproduce it it will be
a fighting folder and the lock
will have to hold up to 200 pounds

Make sure the handle is wide enough to hide the extra edge and be sure the opening stud is recessed enough to prevent accidental opening in the pocket. I have confidence in ya. Go for it.

Yup, same guy. It's a pretty wild design but I don't think I have time to figure it all out. I hope someone builds it for him but it probably won't be me.....I just have no time.

I think it needs a thumb disc opener on the end where his wave-like opener is though. I'd be leary about building anything that could be misconstrued as infringing on Emerson. Not that is very similar in appearance but anything that allows you to open a knife as you draw it from your pocket should be carefully studied and considered.
