Double-Edged Folders

I've been eyeing the Cold Steel Triple Action for several reasons as of late: 1) it is the only knife of the market that uses that type of lock and opening mechanism; 2) it is one of the few true double-edged folding knives on the market; 3) I've wanted to try the new VG-1 steel that the company uses now. I've seen less than favorable reviews of this knife, but I picked one up on the wonderful world of eBay for $35 including shipping. Let's keep this forum politic-free, citing only the performance of the blade. Cold Steel or Lynn Thompson-related forums have all turned into heated debates recently and I want to avoid that---performance is the only key. How did I do?

I'm a big fan of twin edges for self defense work---you have twice the options, in my opinion, for an attack and also room for error if your cutting stroke misses and it's necessary to use a backhand attack. Are there any other double edged folders on the market? A few similar (although not always truly sharpened) examples I can think of are the Gerber Applegate folder and the AG Russell Folding Sting (for this one, especially, how does it perform?). Thanks for the input and help.

Thanks for the opinions on the Triple Action and its similar counterparts, I appreciate it.

God bless you, America, our allies, and our men and women overseas.

That knife is better in the Fred Perrin custom form..

Double edge folders? Call up DDR (Darrel Ralph)

Check the handle on the Triple Action Folder. Does the light texturing on that aluminum handle appear like it would give you enough of a grip if you were to jam the blade into something?

Consider that: 1) there is no finger guard to keep you hand sliding forward, 2) you're talking about two edges now and 3) regardless what people say, CS does make some awfully sharp knives.

Take your time...

Ok, it is possible to use this knife in a thumb reinforced pikal grip. However, if that's not your preferred method of gripping a knife handle, I'd pass on this knife.

At the risk of mentioning something too politically incorrect, the Dalton Assassin is doubled-edged.

The CS Triple Action has a nice blade, but the handle sucks. It's soft alluminium, too light, and no guard. There's nothing to prevent your hand from sliding onto the blade. I bought one because they looked good in the catalog, but it's more of a toy than a practical knife.

i had one for a while and i agree 100%.

if ya want a double edged fighter get a MT makora or scarab OTF auto.

J.R. McDonald I belive the fella's name is out of Florida. A beauty on ebay right now that he did double edged. Outstanding value and the knives are built like tanks. keepem sharp

Microtech makes several nice Out The Front autos that are compact, and double-edged: from the small UTX70, Troodon, larger Ultratech, and versions of the fairly large Scarab, and the Makora. High quality, lots of fun to play with, and excellent edges.

As far as the Triple Action folder goes, all has been said. I handled one at a knife show, and closing it one-handed, I cut my finger quite deep. As a collectors item, I think you got a great deal, and I'd probably buy one for up to $50, but I'd never carry it.

Double-edge knives just seem to make a lot more sense as a fixed blade rather than a folder, balisongs excepted. Having it as a folder diminishes its utility, IMO.

i dont know how much utility use any double edge has be it fixed or folder as the double edge prevents ya from using your finger to add pressure/direct the direction its cutting on the back of the blade which i for one do a lot on utility knives, imho the double edge is more of a fighter and the biggest con in that regard is they are illegal to carry a lot of places.
