I have a GIN-1 FRN Native and I have sharpened the swedge.
The laws in my state allow this as long as I don't conceal it.
I wear my Native in my waistband and during the first two months of wearing it I cut myself a few times.
Neosporin and a bandaid took care of it.
Now I have learned to handle it properly and I don't cut myself anymore.
In fact, I tucked a Rescuer into my waistband the other day and realized that I handled the Rescuer the same way as the Native, as if it had an exposed sharpened back edge.
Second nature.
It wouldn't take much of an addition to the handle of the Native to make it cover or guard the swedge.
The Zowada collaboration has a covered swedge (easier to do with a liner lock).
If Spyderco doesn't do this eventually I think I might ask Gene Osborn at www.centercross to make me one, like a Native.
Gotta get the kids through college first.
So, has anyone else sharpened the swedge of their Native?
