Double folder question

Years ago I remember seeing a Spyderco double folder where the hinge was on each end of the handle. One blade was serrated, the other blade was smooth. Are these still made? Are/were they any good? They intrigued me from the get go but I never even tried to purchase one for one reason or another.
Thanks

The Dyad.

Not in production.
That's it!

That looks like the awesomest knife ever!

There are other spydie models with two blades(one plain edge one serrated) though. Kindof a Spyderco Multitool but can't recall the name.

I saw one go up for sale a few months back, can't say I've seen them outside of that one time.

I'm optimistic that there will be more Sprint Runs of the C-44 Dyad at a later date. It's a great IN HOUSE design of Spyderco's that they took a lot of pride in it's design. I have a couple of the C-44 models myself and they are sacred to me. How I would love a new Sprint Run C-44 Dyad in one of the supersteels. I would even go bunkers for one in XHP.

I'm even optimistic at some point that hopefully Spyderco will do another double bladed folder ( SE & PE). Because they have already proven that they can do a super quality unit.

I owned one of the Sprint G10 Dyad's , but to be honest I couldnt get rid of it fast enough .
It was to way heavy and although it was sized and built tough enough for hard work , it was very uncomfortable in the hand and not very ergonomic when you were really using it hard due to the second closed blade being where your fingers rest .
A few years later I stumbled apon a much smaller Dyad in FRN , this is where the Dyad idea works in my opinion .
It is much more portable - usable - sensible and reminds me more of a Multi bladed Traditional that is carried for small everyday cutting tasks but doesnt get in the way and you dont know your carrying it .
Here is a pic of it next to a SAK Cadet for a size comparison

If you get one , get the smaller version is my advice .
I do wish my little one had a pocket clip , but thats not the end of the world .

Dyad = great idea, but god-awful ergonomics

Spyderhole humps are cool on single blade models, but terrible when they're digging into your phalanges or palm from a closed blade when you've got the other blade deployed and in use.

Having a near 90deg spine pressured into the nerve endings of your fingers and hand when cutting wasn't pleasant at all, either.:thumbsdown:

Nice novelty piece for Spyderco AFI's, but for using, it was a rare dud from the Co. for me. :(

I carried an original C44 for years and used it a lot. It will probably kick the Pattada back out of my pocket soon since I miss the serrations at times. It was never something to sit and whittle with for hours at a time, but for daily chores it worked pretty well. The gray Sprint added way to much extra weight and bulk for my taste.

+1, exactly my feelings on the double bladed concept. Still have, carry and use my 'black pearl' mini dyad

That's really interesting Ken because you're not the only knife user I've heard complain about the weight of a folder. It's just not an issue to me at all and I just look at my C-44 Dyad as a handy "user" with the full SE and full PE blades. But this does pose an interesting idea>> because I've wondered why they have seemingly given up on the SALT Dyad that they actually had a prototype of about 4 years ago. I had heard it was because of manufacturing costs is what killed it but I'm not sure.

I'm now wondering if a "mid-sized" Dyad, something between the C-44 & C-39 models in the Salt Series with FRN scales? That would cure your weight problem and would be consistent with the concept of the Salt Series. Because I truly think a SALT Series Dyad would be an excellent idea and I would surely latch on to one of them if they ever happen. But like I also said in my earlier post it might just be time for a completely new design, double bladed folder. Albeit I could be content with new edition C-44 Dyad models for years to come. But the concept of a double bladed folder to me has always been a super idea.

Hi JD,

We've been working on another 2 bladed model for several years. We just gave it more attention in the past year and I'm waiting on he 3rd prototype which is being made now.

Sorry I didn't see that earlier Mr. Glesser but that is great news to me and I'm sure other Dyad fans are also happy to hear this. I would even love it if you all went back to a Micarta handle like you all had with the original C-44. But hey I'm wide open for any Spyderco "double-bladed" folder ( PE & SE). I can't tell you how handy it is when I do carry my original C-44 Dyad>> and I also hope there will be a new blade steel used too. But what the heck I'm just glad to hear this news.
