I keep a paracord "fob-like" knot on my small classic because i carry the knife in my pocket, without the clip. The paracord came handy on a couple of occasions and helps in having a good grip on the small. I carry my big Regular clipped so no lanyard on this one.

hopefully the owner of the pics won't mind, but it illustrates my question pretty well. how come on some models have the 2 small grooves cut on the outside of the lockbar in addition to the main larger ones on the underside. is this a design improvement over the other models. IIRC, i see it on some Classics but not all, and also on some 21's but not all?

I just looked at the 2 smalls I own (Wood Inlaid Classic and Micarta) they both have those marks. I am not sure what they are but they must be made by CRK, as I am the original owner of both. I even ordered the Micarta from CRK so I could get it with double silver lugs.

Never noticed them before because I do not take off the clips of the smalls.

The satin finish option is created by first sandblasting the handle slab, then rubbing the face, minus the lockbar, on a flat grit surface. That groove provides a break in the surface to provide clean demarcation of satin finish and sandblast finish.

Those grooves were made so that the pocket clip wouldn't bind on the pants pocket. It was before they changed to the new clip.
