double thumb lugs

I often wonder why CRK does not include double thumb lugs as a standard feature of their sebs? Other than this I believe the knife is perfect.

Because Chris thinks that a double thumblug is not necessary. Because a lot of people like them it is offered as an option.

MHO is that any folder designed to be one-hand-opening should be able to be opened with either one hand. My Seb's are double-lugged, and it's a nice touch. Opinions definitely vary, and I see the logic either way. Just preference I reckon...

Professor.

I bought a left hand plain Umfaan that came with a double thumblug. I wonder if they all came with the double thumblug? My right thumb has been broken a couple of times so I find it kind of awkward to open a knife with my right thumb. I have several Sebenzas with the double thumblug option and several that don't. I lean slightly toward the double thumblug option but the single is fine with me. I think that maybe in order to keep the cost down the single thumblug is standard. The double requires more machining and material with would bump up the cost and therefore the price. Chris puts a lot of thought into the making of his knives and I think that the decision to use one thumblug was not taken lightly. Also the thumblug on the opposite side can can catch on the lip of the pocket as the knife is withdrawn and open the knife as you draw it out. Something that you might not want to happen.  :) ;) :p

I much prefer double lugs and wish they were standard - especially because it's much more of a pain and risk to send them back to the USA for conversion from Europe.

Scott, my understanding is the Umfaan was standard with Double Thumblugs. I had Chris repolish and sharpen the blade on my Colored Circle #8/50 Umfaan and they replaced the existing double with a new double thumblug. Even though the knife has been discontinued CRK's posture is that they need to maintain a stockpile of replacement parts to bring the knife back to like new condition long after the fact. That is Customer Service!

As far as the Double Thumblugs, I find that most of my serious /EDC Sebenzas all have Double's on them. It's just nice to know they are there if you need them.

I've had double thumblugs put on all my Sebenzas. I, too, wish they were standard. It's a pain to have to send the knives back to the factory.

There may be a couple of slight disadvantages to double thumb lugs, BUT I would still prefer them. I prefer the knife to be easy to open with either hand. My Umfaan came standard with them. If I had known I could order my Sebenza that way, I would have!!! :( I found out too late.

I got my small Sebenza from a dealer at a show, so I did not have any choice there. Of course if it came standard, it probably would have had the preferred double thumb lugs.

well... and I really like the Sebenza as it is offered now (one-side stud). I don't know why, but I just like it. It's not a tactical blade that you need to deploy with either hand within 0,5 sec. otherwise you're dead (joking of course). It's utility knife. And you can always order double stud as an option... or just left hand version if you like.

I can open my standard-right handed-single thumblug quite easily with my left hand. I push the blade out to about 45 degr. with my fore-finger on the thumb-lug, then use my thumb on the bare blade to open it. I practice this while zapping channels on TV with the remote in my right-hand and the Sebbie in my left-hand :D:)
